In the pdf document, code snippets are compared. But it doesn't make clear in which direction they were copied, if they are copies. The linux snippets have useful comments, the unix snippets don't. In a copying process, isn't it more likely that comments are stripped, rather than have them magically appear?
Natural gas is better than biofuel, obviously, because for natural gas you don't have to chop down rain forests. But natural gas still produces carbon dioxide, unless chemistry has fundamentally changed in the last few days while I wasn't paying attention. Making synthetic gasoline from solar energy doesn't produce a lot of carbon dioxide because what gets produced in your car, gets used when they make it, more or less. We'll use solar energy to make the stuff. That's not extremely efficient, but who cares? More solar energy is hitting earth than we can use anyway.
This article doesn't explain why health care in the US is five times more expensive than in most countries in Europe. I live in Amsterdam, I am single, I pay $120 a month, full coverage, no co-payment, no dentist.
In India people speak a number of native languages and English. Assuming that parents teach their kids one or two of these native languages, Indian kids are multilingual, making them better at language. And probably multilingual parents are a better role model to these kids than the average American parent who speaks just English.
So they'll hack into my systems in order to make my systems secure? Next, will they break into my car to make my car more secure? Will they abduct my kids to guarantee they're secure? Who voted for these people? Oh, it's the people who didn't vote:
"Bad politicians are elected by good people who don't vote" (anonymous Irish election poster showing George W.)
Of course, it makes a lot of sense to block child porn (which we really should call "images of child abuse") for the general public while it remains available for pedophiles through proxies and "secret" networks. This way, the general public will not push politicians and law enforcement departments to fight child porn. Pedophiles should be happy.
Suppose aliens live faster than we do. They do millennia while we do one second. We won't see them coming, and it'l all be over in the blink of an eye.
It's not hard to separate "thinking" from "doing". "Doing" is what you do first, "thinking" is the thing you do next. People tell me that there are programmers who do it in reverse order.
I recently quit a company after just a few weeks, because I couldn't work with the programmers there. I tried to explain to the management what the difference is between their team, and the teams I'm used to working with, but I needed a lot of words. One of them then said "you see programming as a life style, the team here apparently sees it as a nine to five job". And that's the nail on its head.
If you're any good at programming, and you make software or maintain a linux server in your spare time, tell them. Then they'll know you're not just the average Joe (or Jane). Then they'll ask you for a piece of code, and then you're in - if you're any good.
Math KNOWLEDGE may be debatable, but Math skills are essential. If you don't have the ability to break up and solve mathmatical formulas, how do you expect to be able to solve complex programming tasks?
I couldn't agree more. It's about the ability to make complex abstractions and to create a complex model in your mind. People with proven skills in math or physics have that ability. You don't have the ability, you're not an excellent programmer.
I'm used to working in or with teams of programmers that have proper university education in science. This week, I left a job because the programmers in my team did not have proper education in math. I could see it in their code.
Now, how long do our kids need to be online to forget what an "a" looks like?
No, you still die. Everybody dies.
Oh, I am very determined not to.
For a moment, I thought it said "Windows XP ends tomorrow".

Next year, the BBC will air programs that you can only view on a Sony TV set.

37%? What does that tell you about the average marriage?
All your tweets are belong to us.
Nasa should hire Kurt Vonnegut, he's the expert on the subject.
It would be interesting to observe a similar impact on Earth.

Maybe this Bill person should create an operating system, put it on everybody's computers, then give the backdoor key to the feds?

When it comes to security, even hackers admit we're doing a better job making our products more secure than anyone else.
That's because "anyone else"'s products are secure in the first place. They don't have to be made secure.
Like an annual "boycot facebook day"?

There should be a law against patent trolls. Or should we call Frodo?
Sach's story _is_ a brilliant story. As imho are most of his stories.
Dutch was Theo van Gogh, killed because he "insulted" Muslims.

Don't scare the living hell out of them. Just kill their computer.
