Electricity is generated in coal power plants, or in nuclear power plants. Those pollute. Also, recycling batteries is hard, and it pollutes. The sum of pollution over the lifecycle of an electric car may well be a lot worse than that of a gasoline car.
Aliens that find us will probably be so much more advanced than we are, they'll put us in their zoo, or they'll eat us. There should be a law against contacting intelligent alien life forms.
As always, governments act on potential threats to our safety after somehing has happened. It was obvious a train would be targeted, yet an attack on Thalys had to happen before EU governments started thinking about it. Same will happen with AV's. First an attack has to happen, then they will act. Please, governments of the world: here's your chance to, for once, act before another massacre happens.
Blocking pictures of child abuse is like sweeping them under the carpet: we don't see them, but pedophiles can still download them. I fail to see how this prevents further abuse of the children in the pictures. And just to be clear: we are talking about adult men, sometimes elderly men, having sex with todlers. Penetration sex that is. And yes, that too.
The Great Leader doesn't want to conform to imperialist standards, so his new standard is 13 minutes off hours, and its days are 27 hours long so his people can work longer hours. Also, the Gread Leader made Earth rotate slower, to match is new time standard. On His birthday, as his PR agency announced, Earth will stand still for an hour out of respect for the Great Leader. This is all true, I kid you not.
You can switch Privacy Badger off for a specific page, but you can't turn if of altogether. If you want it to pause blocking, apparently you need to uninstall, then later install again when you want to resume blocking. I sometimes use "pause blocking" in Ghostery, which for this reason I prefer over Badger. Also, Ghostery has a switch for "block all trackers", In P Badger, you have to switch them on one by one.
I was actually thinking about their "complex" (understatement) relationship with the Kurds.
"Complex"? Really? Mr Erdogan (and a large part of the population of Turkey, I assume) don't like Kurds. For racist reasons. At the same time, Mr Erdogan is turning the secular state created by Kemal Atatürk back into an islamic state. I'm not surprised that Turkey is bombing the Kurds, and thus helping IS. Soon, Turkey will be an ally of IS, not an adversary. This of course makes that Turkey can't be part of the EU in the next 50 years or so.
In most offices it is very warm in winter, and very cold in summer. In winter, the heater is turned up too high, and in summer, the airco makes it way too cold. For the environment it's better to make the office just a little bit cooler than outside, and in winter, just warm enough to be comfortable. That will save a lot of energy, and prevent global warming. Which makes me think: is global warming sexist? Does global warming favor women?
What you post on the internet, is on the internet. Period. Nothing you can do about it. When someone else posts a private pic of you on the internet, bad luck, no way to remove it. Go sue the person for damages.
I'm in Europe. "Europe" does not have a law that gives you the right to be not on Google. Some countries in Europe have, like the French. Soon, the French will have a law that says the internet can only be in French.
I have a copy of Windows 7 that I sometimes run in a virtualbox. I bought Windows 7, now Microsoft is going to take that away from me and give me Windows10? Can I get my money back? I don't want Windows10, it's not what I bought.
When will they reform patent law so trolls don't have a business case? They could radically limit the validity duration of a patent, so after like two years, there's no case any more. Also, they could limit the right to sue to either the original inventor(s) or a company that bought the patent and is actually using it in a product. Then patents work the way they were intended, not as an extortion scheme for patent trolls.
I update Ubuntu on my laptop as soon as s new version comes out, my desktop a week later (just in case). My phones and tablets I update as soon as a new version of Android becomes available for it. As rooted phones don't always ota very well, I update them manually. As for the microwave and the refrigerator, I update them immediately, but fortunately, that never happens. I sincerely wish I could update my cats. They're 17 years old, they still run on their first OS version, which is getting a bit worn out. When they jump on my desk to be close to me, they don't make it and fall back off, managing to grab my bare elbow with one or two nails and holding on to it. As for myself, I did one upgrade, which is sufficient for now.
Please, please, don't do that. Please, let aliens not find us. Please. Aliens that find us are so much more developed than we are, they will not consider us to be intelligent life. They'll put us in their zoo. Or worse, in their butchery. How can Hawking be so dumb?
Even if you loaned money to Greece at 1% I don't see how they'd pay it back.
Nobody expects them to pay it back. The conditions and restucturing and austerity and everything is there to make sure the Greeks will not need another €100 billion in a couple of years. Nobody thinks the Greeks won't need €100 billion in a couple of years time. But then we'll have saved enough to pay them again. And we'll keep doing this until the cows come home. It's like the story of the cricket and the ants. Some people work hard, others make music and dance.
The problem is how to judge expertise on a resume.
Not just resume. I talk to them. Ask them questions. Usually, I know if I'll hire them within ten minutes. If they have a passion for programming. I never regretted hiring a programmer.
Those dunes, that's where the Sirens live.
Dear Andy, you kept Minix to yourself for decades. What happened to make you change your mind, 30 years late?

I have a degree in astrophysics. I work in AI. I don't have an opinion about the issue being discussed.
Git. The best. Whether your company has one employee, or hundreds of thousands.

Isn't Cobol the only language where MOVE really means "copy"?
I was hoping for M&M. I don't like Marshmellows.

I mean, when members of the House of Lords make selfies in womens underwear, don't you realize your prudishness is the cause of that, not the effect?

What about a college degree? At one level, a diploma is no more than a very expensive certification.
Nope. Getting a college degree, you actually learn something.

I would never ever hire a programmer because of their certifications. I hire because of expertise, period. Certifications are a rip-off.
