My history teacher was one of the finalists for the mission. During the "competition" process Christa McAuliffe became a friend of hers. We watched the launch live during history class. I was 10 years old. We all saw it, but I don't think anyone really understood. School was let out early and when I got home my mom and dad were watching President Regan speaking about the event. With the exception of my mom's death a year later, that was the only time I ever saw my dad cry. During the course of my life, I will forget lots of things but that is a day that I will *never* forget.

For some reason I have a facination with the incident so I have spent a lot of time studying the facts, the videos, the NASA reports. Myth #3 (that the astronauts died at 73 seconds) is the only one that I've found people think to be true. I have a feeling that people do believe it because it's more comfortable to assume they died instantly rather than think it was even possible that they survived the event and met a much more unfriendly end (slamming into the ocean at 200mph).

Nikon is encrypting the *white balance* portion of the RAW format, not the entire file. The Nikon-produced plugin for Photoshop gives you a nice little drop-down for adjusting white balance. I doubt that they would stop supplying that with the cameras, as a great number of photographers are using Photoshop.

BTW, Corel makes an excellent RAW ---> whatever format converter that is freely available (yes, free as in beer!). I think it's called RAWShooter Essentials? It's no faster than the Nikon coverter, however, it cleans up memory after itself and doesn't run your CPU up to 100% during the conversion. I use it all the time to supply JPGs to clients.

Pssst... .Hey Darl. That's the "Ark of the Covenant". OF. Not "and".

    **************

The "AotC" contained the two tablets upon which the Ten Commandments were written, the staff of Aaron, and a pot of manna. It was where God manifested His earthly presence.

The Ark of the Covenant could only be approached once a year by the high priest on "Yum Kippur"- the Jewish Day of Atonement. On this day, the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies with the blood of a sacrificed lamb. It was also only on this day that God's presence manifested between the two Cherubs. The high priest would sprinkle the blood of the sacrificed lamb on the Mercy Seat. Once received by God, the blood of the lamb atoned (covered) for the sins of the high priest and the entire nation of Israel. This ritual was performed continuously, year after year. The Ark of the Covenant played a key role in the forgiveness of sins.
