    Good god man, where in heavens do you live?

    This leads to the question of what is deemed "Valuable".

    Is an IPOD more valueable than say an insurance card. Hell cars are stolen all the time for the basic components of the car. I know one guy who leaves a car at the airport, because he travels; he's gone for 2 days, and leaves nothing in the car of value. He returns to find the seats stolen out of his car. The seats from the manufacturer. So then what is deemed "valuable", in your country, seems awefully subjective to me.

    "The internet by definition is PUBLIC. That is the PURPOSE of the internet."

    That being said, then all websites on the web should be deemed public by default, but as we know that is not true. A city is road is public, but the car you drive on it is yours and is private. The poorly secured website that is a private webpage on that public internet highway. The information was not put out there for the public, there was an effort made by the entrant to purposefully look for info. Therefore, no matter how ill-secured it was, it was not in plain site. Over 3300 attempts to access does not equal an accidental find.

    I don't agree with the lax security that the govt. had. It is and was pathetic.

    Just because a house has windows and they aren't covered by curtains does not mean that by looking through the window and reading an important document left near the window that you're aren't stealing info. An unlocked door also doesn't mean you have the right to open it either. Both are wrong.

    Conversely, an unpublished website for a govt. agency... and they really thought that was secure? Buahhahhahhahhahha!

    I bet you watched the video of the woman in Iran who was shot during the protests? Did you see it on YouTube, or watch it on the News? Did you ever see a holocaust documentary? Those are all about innocent people dying? I bet you didn't even take the time to read the blog. You probably have no freaking clue if it pays homage or not. Yet you feel morally justified to tell everyone else to grow up? Pot meet kettle...

    Respect for the dead is very Noble, but don't you think that the information found on videos such as that serve a purpose that help prevent such tragedies later? I respect death, it is, after all what we will all face at the end of our lives. This particular individual knew he was on TV, he knew that his sport is dangerous, and I would not be at all surprised if all olympians have to sign waivers granting privledges to video them. If that would be the case, then that tape should live forever. Have you ever watch a documentary in which someone died? How is this any different. We have videos of war zones, are you ok with that because they are an enemy dying? Would not that be a double standard?

    Again I respect death, but nor am I afraid of it.

    They did warn people who watch the news and actually follow the shuttle program on. Besides if you live here, how could you not know about it?

    The sound of it is just as wonderful as the sound of the shuttle leaving the earth to orbit this planet. It makes a person pretty proud to hear that sound. It means our astronauts are almost home safe and sound.

    Is the younger generation of programmers really that arrogant to think that older programmers don't know and learn new languages and coding trends? it is my experience that the best coders out there are those over 40. Not only are they on top of technologies that are current, but they understand why those technologies came to be and what they helped to improve. Many of them learned on the job, in a budding industry.

    Just a few days ago there was a post right here on Slashdot asking how easy it was to cheat in CS. Based on the forum discussions, a significant number of students today get programming degrees and can't produce a lick of decent code.

    This is NOT to say that there is not an abundance of exceptional young talent, there is, and they deserve good work and decent pay, but this is in defense of those who helped pave the way.

    I agree with you, classification of Adult only versus Porn can be hard to distinguish but they do it in movies. XXX is porn related, Rated R is Adult only. If a site has any Adult only materials, it's classified as Adult only. If it is on the cusp, Parental Guidance (PG) would apply.

    Now we start getting into rights of privacy debates. A video game like Halo is set for Teens and above I believe, but really I feel it is up to the parent to make the judgement call (hopefully responsibly) as to whether their younger child is ready (mature enough to handle the content) to play a Teen rated game.

    I don't agree with censorship in general, but parents censor content all the time. Communities that do that are just taking the decisions away from the individuals to make up their own minds on what they want to watch. Which I'm against.

    Granted the issue here is jurisdiction. I create a butterfly picture here using real butterflies, but in Norfork, VA, the killing of butterflies is illegal, say due to PETA. I don't live in Norfork, I live where my actions are not illegal. But according to this article, this man is being prosecuted for a crime he didn't commit within the city limits, and is losing his battle.

    I don't think that the prosecution should stand, and what you choose to look at in the privacy of your own home, or what you choose to buy is no one else's business.

    For years people have suggested that filtering of porn sights for adults only was a good thing. So I remember in the early days of the web, people mentioned making an extension like the .com, .org, .net, etc... to include .xxx which would then allow communities whose law prohibit such materials to be sold in their community to be able to have their local IP providers block such web site extensions. A .xxx extension also would make it much easier for parents to filter content that they don't want their children to see. If I remember correctly, I think I recall even the Porn industry wanting it's own extension.

    This then allows those people in those communities to don't want content filtered to be able to then petition their local governments for changes in freedoms.

    There are a lot of logistics that would need to be worked out to what should go into a .xxx section of the web, but that would allow the industry to have more openness as they want and parents to have the control they want.

    Besides, since you can have access to the internet in the privacy of your own home, an you have the right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness, wouldn't the obscenity laws in Tampa contradict that if obscene porn is your pursuit to happiness?

    If more men would just be a bit more romantic spontaneously through out the year, there wouldn't be a need by industires to guilt men (and some women) into doing something special on Valentines Day and Sweetest Day.

    Besides, if you are only romantic on Valentines Day, do you really have a need to complain?

    It was a glorious morning when my alarm beeped at 4:10am. I awoke, turned on the TV to the pre-set NASA channel, checked to make sure the launch was still 'a Go'. I then donned a bathrobe over my birthday suit, watched the last 10 seconds on TV until I heard "We have Liftoff" and stepped out on my back porch. I looked to the east and the tree line was shadowed in a orange glow that was beautiful during the pre-dawn hours. The sky was clear and the air was crisp and the sight of the flames was facinating even at 50 miles away. I watched at the shuttle began to head in a northward direction. It was around 6.5 minutes later that the sound waves rumbled through the still night air. It was more of a low rumble, but it was distinctly felt and heard. At aroun 7.5 mintues, between my screen porch, the trajectory and my poor vision I could no longer see the bright spec of light that was the shuttle that was now a couple hundred miles away. I stepped back inside watched NASA TV until about the 9.5 minute mark during the last separation, and knew our astronauts doing ok. I hung up the robe, climbed back into bed, turned off the TV and went back to sleep.

    What a beautiful way to wake up in the pre-dawn hours. And to think, /sniffle that was the last manned night launch we'll see for quite some time. Oh how I wish everyon could have seen this first hand.

    I would have to ask, did the scientists test the subjects prior to this study to find out how many had symptoms of depression, or have people in their family that have symptoms of depression before they ever show strong internet activity?

    In our society, with all of the news that is about threats over our heads and the general push to become wealthy, many people are depressed, or show signs of depression. My suspicion is that heavy users of the internet find freedom and more happiness in their internet activity.

    The article is referencing the English Language which is taught in every grade school and every high school. The methods of teaching may vary a tad from region to region and school to school, but the basic information is the same. College is the next level of schooling. Basically, the article is drawing attention to the fact that students are not using proper words, but rather slang. Students have not learned how to address what message they are trying to convey in a properly structured sentence. There is a level of expectation of students that enter the colleges and that involves knowing how to write in the format that is expected. College Professors have a reasonable right to expect their students to know the difference writing slang versus writing standard English sentences. I'm not talking about the occasional mistake, even the most practiced make mistakes. This article is speaking of the greater issue.

    While I don't relish the thought of a convicted murder or rapist ever feeling freedom again, not every inmate is in prison for Rape or Murder. There are several people in prison for lots of minor things. The idea behind prison served multiple purposes, to punish those for crimes committed, and to rehabilitate someone back into society. I can tell you, that for some people playing D & D is no picnic. For some it is a dull boring uneventful task in their lives.

    Do we really want people behind bars to go absolutely insane from being incarcerated? OR would we rather have the prisoners learn something from their mistakes and maybe learn remorse and pay their debt to society quietly and peacefully.

    For all those parents who have children and they've caught their child doing something that was against the rules of the house or even society, the parents generally punish them with grounding, and removing games/toys. But most out there don't take decks of cards away, or books to read, or strip a room down to a bed, sheets, a pillow and a bathroom stall. Of course not, that would be considered cruelity.

    I can't tell you how frustrating it is to try to keep information secure on various web sites or with companies that still use antiquated password styles. 6-8 chars or numbers only? Really? Still? After all the identity theft you'd think companies would at least step up their need to have users have strong passwords. But nope, places like Earthlink still use limited password capability.

    Innocent until proven guilty....

    The representative can go after her all he likes, it's for a court to decide if she's innocent or guilty of lying in the use of PAC funds and whether or not the use of 'my' in the name of her site deems fraud.

    I can't say whether her use of PAC funds were used properly, but I would certainly agree with her stance that your congressman is your congressman for your state regardless of which district your from. I could see much better use of taxpayer monies than persuing this blogger.
