One would think that after suffering one of the worst breaches ever in terms of the potential damage, a company would look for fresh perspectives, and not hire the new leaders from within.
Perhaps not too many outside leaders are interested in being hired as officers on a sinking ship?
No, the ones they should have hired are the ones that want to make names for themselves for righting a sinking a ship. Some executives really are looking for a distinguishing challenge, not just a cushy offer.

Sorry if you are stupid enough to allow some company to basically put a hot-mic in your home, well I don't feel sorry about any problems you encounter as a result of that.
Why do you not extend that same level of distrust to the phone in your pocket? It also has a camera, GPS, and contains your browsing history.
It's warnings for nerds that may have still been thinking about migrating to the Bay Area. I mean, I don't think it warrants the front page, but whatever.
which is more than justified when most people are forced into a 2-year cellular contract.
And, no replacing a phone every year isn't the fucking answer either.
Who forced you into a contract? Or do you mean you were forced into a contract as that was the only way to get a brand new, top of the line phone? Because for me, the answer is to buy a cheaper phone on Amazon or eBay, pay month to month, and if I drop the phone a few times and have to buy another, I come out way ahead.
I think when he says "notice the difference" he really means "care about the difference." There was a massive difference between VHS and DVD, and everything since is noticeable but suffers from diminishing returns. If anything, it all just serves to remind you that what you're watching is far more important than what format it's in.
Now that the "liberty for security" question is on the other foot, when we're discussing trading liberty (more useful e-mail) for security, why does the mindset seem to be flipped?
MS Office macros can also be quite useful. Do you enable those?
I see plenty of Nissan Leafs and BMW i3s on the road. There are also Kia Souls that are electric that you might not even notice, and Chevy Bolts and others. Sure I'd rather drive a Model S, but I'm not going to buy any car for $70k and up. We'll see how the Model 3 turns out.
Thank goodness you you included his middle initial or I wouldn't have known which Richard Nixon you were referring to :)
The JavaScript ship sailed long, long ago.
It makes the W3C much less effective.
How so? Who would notice that does not already care about these issues?
Even the summary already spells it out: "open source politics" as if that is bad.
If you read TFA, you will see that this phrase is a link to a story about a Node.js fork caused by an interpersonal issue. So avoiding "open source politics" makes a lot of sense in this context.
So maybe these are interim hires?

Varnish? Were any claims ever made otherwise?
don't bother replying with some sarcastic response to pro-Union. Just go your own fucking way.
This comes across as pre-emptively shouting down dissent, rather than engaging... which is exactly what drives people away from unions.
What kind of moron working at a credit reporting agency fails to change the DEFAULT login and password. ? I hope that clown got fired
You must not get out much. The answer is "all kinds."

Here, in my opinion, are some even lamer articles for comparison:

Ah, I'm ashamed of how long I spent searching for it but I did finally find the worst story I've ever seen posted to Slashdot: Pharma Bro Martin Shkreli Threatens Ghostface Killah

So why should people have to pay extra for this?
I don't think you understand: No matter what the standard warranty is, you will pay for it.
"Guaranteed to last only" =/= "Only guaranteed to last"

Always blames his tools.
In that incomplete analogy, I think a web framework is more analogous to materials than tools.
Thanks Betteridge.
Actually, they make a crap load of money, on merch. Less on the actual entertainment.
They make a lot on both. 2016 was ridiculous.
So, what's the problem?
The problem is Slashdot still needs to complain about Google letting products or services die.
Equifax Breach is Very Possibly the Worst Leak of Personal Info Ever so far.
I've spotted the time traveler.
And that's why no-one uses trains, right? And why no train station has a car park?
Or a bus route that goes to and from the train station.
(3 horizontal lines for menu? or was it dots?, WTF is wrong with writing menu)
It looks like a menu and, probably more importantly, fits well in a vertically-oriented screen.
Honestly, that seems a silly nit to pick.
