I've owned Nooks since the first generation (with the little LCD at the bottom) up through the Nook Tablet. You are correct, they are easy to root...unless B&N's software gets loaded on again. Each software update has less features, and mostly code to prevent rooting/sideloading/etc. Even the less tech-saavy users in the B&N forums notice this. The Google Store was only announced earlier this year and only works on their newest Nook and Nook HD lines. They chose to leave any other product line out. While again, I much prefer the Nook hardware over Kindle or Nexus, I still find their stock software lacking. Thankfully Nookdevs have done an excellent job at finding ways around B&N's shifting restrictions.
As a fellow Nook owner, I second the software problem. It is almost a requirement to root any Nook purchased, as B&N spends more effort trying to prevent people form rooting them than actually fixing their usability issues. Hardware and price wise, the Nooks are fantastic. Software-wise, they are atrocious. Adding the Google Play Store on the stock OS is a good start, but redesigning their store to be more friendly is the natural next step.
This was my thought as well. He did steal classified information. However, it was for a good cause. Give him a slap on the writs, maybe some community service...have him work at a local soup kitchen or something, and send him on his way. In the meantime, we, as the people, need to boot the politicians who support this program.
Which is a poor correlation. The Boston bombers had nothing to do with either Korea nor China. I am betting he visited South Korea...which is no threat beyond the occasional dud smartphone...and China still wants to play nice as long as we buy their goods. Backpack and bombing should have nothing to do with those countries.
I think it would be naive to conclude that only Microsoft is providing this access to the US government. I would look at foreign sites to escape from the NSA (and perhaps we instead perused by that host country's intelligence service instead).
but do you honestly believe that close Western allies of the US are systematically bugging US embassies and spying on US politicians on a massive scale?
Um, yes, of course. I also bet those friendly nationals who are cleared to sit in SCIF's in the US report back to their respective nations' information that was NOFORN that they inadvertently come across as well. It is the world of espionage, and just how it goes. All the countries do it to friendly and hostile countries. It is only embarrassing when uncovered.
The Nook Tablet was the last Nook I purchased. I owned the first generation and a Simple Touch. However, I vowed not to buy another Nook again. Their walled garden approach and quick support cycle (expect updates for roughly 6 months and then your device is EOL) were ridiculous. Their layout and hardware specs were fantastic. The SD card slot was fantastic...and hard to find on lower end Android tablets. However, they shot themselves in the foot by preventing sideloading and refusing to use Google Play. The B&N forums are full of threads of people complaining and refusing to buy another Nook. That was a poor decision. I see the current fire sale of Nooks, and while tempting (because they allow Google Play), I don't think I can buy another Nook in good conscience.
Secret courts are important..depending on their purpose. FISA is useful as it grants a small group of judges security clearances instead of the entire federal bench corp. Security clearances are necessary to vet people who will see information to protect sources and methods...it is not supposed to be protecting information (beyond that which would reveal sources and methods). I see FISA as a necessity, but it appears that Snowden has revealed how abused the FISA court now is. FISA should not have the authority to do blanket searches like that...only targetted ones.
Super Mario Bros...you kids....some of us cut our teeth on Joust and Frogger for the Atari 2600...

Are we all expected to have Jumbotron-sized televisions in our living rooms now?
Samsung/LG/Vizio/Sharp will give a resounding yes to that question...

Dang, you're cold /.
He should just be glad it wasn't modded "Insightful"...
Correction...
Domestic operations used to be the domain of the FBI which is not covered under the "Black Budget".
Yeah...moved to Moscow and works for some company called FSB or something like that.

Or even bobbleheads laying around..
Sculley was going to take over and start a new line of soft drinks called Micro-Cola
I'll drink to that...
Shut down all the garbage mashers on the detention level!
I am not sure whether to laugh at the well-placed Star Wars quote...or cry because a Star Wars quote is far too applicable to the bad situation...

Maybe Siri just didn't like her?
My first thought was...glad it wasn't us engaging in another ridiculous scandal on the internet...
True...those countries block "offending" content, the US simply monitors it. Wait...how is that much better?
I'm waiting on Linux ME...I hear it will be much better...
That's ok...the NSA has all the data already anyway...
By that logic...we Americans voted for NSA's PRISM program. I don't think the average Australia knew they were voting for this...

tons of porn on every screen, people drinking all day long, and ill mannered conversation
I fail to see what Fed's even gain from attending.
Might want to connect the dots. You've never worked at a federal agency have you?

No Safeguards Assured.
I thought that was a constant and already understood. I should have added that.
