new viruses don't need to be complex. actually, much like the "i love you" virus, i don't remember the name but a new one reads the contact list and sends an mms message to them. (bummer for the person who will see his bill shoot up.) of course the receiving person will highly likely open the attachment since it came from someone they know and not from anonymous and unverifiable sources such as e-mail. they will open it and they spread some more.
my point is, i believe it is easier to prey on human weaknesses than to actually find exploits in underlying os functions such as bluetooth and ip.
a very cost effective way to weed out zombies and spam. not practical though. but i am very much into it if it will weed out useless stuff both in sms and email.
i would want to see multiple formats that are open and competing with one another. the rest of the users will have freedom to choose which will be better.
i think that if everyone were to only agree on *only one*, then it wouldn't be free (as in speech) at all.
i believe the problem is not the price but the supply. they have initial plan of shiping around 6m units worldwide for the quarter. with that pricepoint, it will definitely be sold out. i am hoping they can get more units out as i also plan to get one.
why not sign up people to have some sort of dialing into their computers so they can randomly call numbers and eventually mess up and confuse the profiling software.
i will expect these companies to actually fight for net neutrality. why? because if bandwidth requirements increase, then companies will have to buy more routers, switches, cables, fiber optic, etc. then companies such as cisco and 3m will earn more.
now if backbone providers just stick with using qos and priority classification in their network, then why the need to upgrade equipment as 'non-paying' content providers will just be limited. their existing network will be for paying subscribers and paying content providers. the isps earn more.
i think the problem is not with broadcast streams of video but individual streams. the traditional tv allows all to watch the same show at the same time with just a small allocation of bandwidth. this will easily be solved since broadcast points can be placed at the edge (like what cdn networks are doing right now.) in addition, multicast streams can be used.
now, content providers are pushing for on-demand streams. so if i watch a particular show and someone else watches it one minute after, then you cannot use the same stream (and add to the pausing of video in the middle.) the edge servers will definitely not be able to cache a lot of videos (hd videos will take a lot of space.) that might not be practical in placing a lot of those around (compared to like akamai where you can put it in multiple parts of the network because of the cheap server cost.)
common sense will tell you that the cost of a full direct pipe, let say an ethernet 10mbps will definitely cost more than a 10mbps dsl line. so i guess, everybody will just have to get those big fat leased pipes to accommodate their bandwidth requirements of streaming hd. with the current infrastructure, i believe it will be cheaper to give out hd-dvds and blu-ray than stream everything over the net. but when infrastructure has matured (like backbone will be 100gbps with a full mpls netowrk) enough, then live streaming will probably be a "standard feature".
i find the explosions to be weird. it seems they are in slow motion. looking at actual explosions in tv, you almost hardly see debris flying unless they are played frame by frame. it seems they are doing this for the wow factor instead. another way to milk money. i feel that real world explosions, blood spatter, and other violent and gory stuff do not match the supposedly "real" things the game does. (of course i cannot bash them to the extent because i have to consider the computing power required, etc.)
is it just me or the explosion seems to be somewhat in slow motion? i think blasting something (as shown in tv) is very fast that you do not see the shrapnels flying slowly (it seems the videos of tornados offer even faster movements.) maybe they just enhanced their effect to make it wow instead of actually patterning it to actual stuff (like did they really study ballistics or explosions?) another money milking machine.
i have ie 7 beta 2 installed. based on experience, when i visited sites such as google and yahoo, they have a script intalled that alerted me to make their sites as default for the search box in ie. once you agree, the plugin is installed and makes their site the default.
i have installed firefox and the default search is google. i used safari and their default search is google as well.
though i am not for microsoft, i would say google's actions with the other browsers *may* cause them troubles in the future. when the share of non-ie browser increases, then microsoft can sue them back because users are not given choice what search engine to choose from.
my point is, if they want a neutral search page, the first startup of the browser should not default to any particular site but to a "customization" page for preference including search sites. users should explicitly choose.
what would google want as action if ever they will push through the an antitrust suit? make google the default search in ie?
wow, that's a lot of e-mail. i would go gaga over sending that much. maybe chatting over e-mail? (sorry but i couldn't seem to think living a normal life sending that much e-mail - unless of course your are in the support or something similar that reads feedbacks, etc.)
yeah right. let's just see what they do so they can operate in china. maybe with all the new ridiculous laws about data retention nowadays, it won't be long before the government will be getting their data without our knowledge (like at&t)
no system is 100% virus free. there may be systems that have probability that is very low.
people supporting alternative systems such as linux and unix (including mac os), etc. should avoid claiming they are not able to be infected with virus and worms. such false advertising may cause people to abandon the adoption at the end because they will just think "hey, why spend all the fuss when you get the same problems.)
ignorance is the problem. education is the solution. it may be easier to avoid getting worms and viruses in linux than windows but educating a user might be able to avoid the same with windows as well.
there was a bluetooth type "virus" that automatically hijacks phones that had their bluetooth on (caribe virus i think.) though there is a prompt to the users about bluetooth access, many in our country (philippines) got infected and had to reinstall the os in their phones (many repair shops were actually making money charging around $10 to fix.)
this wouldn't be very difficult in mobile phones especially now they are becoming more connected via ip. my friend told me once that he connected his pc to the mobile phone and used the grps feature. since an ip is assigned, he is able to access the other phones and i think he was able to look at some files in some phones.
i guess it is just a matter of time where we see in our bills a very big internet charges.
isn't this being implemented now? networks already have qos in place and they charge different rates for best effort, guaranteeed, bursting traffic, etc.
but in any case, good thing i don't live in the usa. lately, there have been lots of crazy laws being made. it's the most exciting drama show on earth.
but seriously, i hope that other countries will not get into this (this issue in particular.) right now, networks are being interconnected and not passing through usa anymore. i just hope that major providers will just diversify their systems to be hosted in major traffic points outside the usa for better traffic. they can use anycast.
i guess you'll just have to recall your sexual fantasies so you can easily repeat the signatures. and maybe when some new fetish or person comes along, then you can "change" the password.
though the explanation is good, i don't seem to like the name.
honestly, i wouldn't want to buy the product anymore as it sounds bad. there is no more coolness from the "revolution." it's like buying a device that is small, crappy, puny, unreliable, cheap, and underpowered. maybe they associate it with "weeeeeeee" where at the end, the product crashes to the wall as there is no brakes.
they could have named it like family entertainment or universal entertainment but not as cheesy as wii. i'd rather buy the ps3 and xbox 360 where there is a coolness factor to the name. i couldn't really keep the scenario out of my mind where kids who have wii will get teased and bullied by those with ps and xbox.
since their backbone routers are already using T640 routing node, it already supports oc-768 modules that are available already. (http://www.juniper.net/products/modules/100046.pd f) they can also consider this interface upgrade as a possible interim solution to the congestion.
also, i guess they should already look into consideration that backbones will already be migrating to those interfaces in the near future. since they are internet2, they should have the advantage over existing networks.
add to that redundancy in buttons in case one fails. unfortunately it didn't go 99.999%. they should rethink their sla.
http://www.foundrynet.com/products/webswitches/ser veriron/PDFs/ServerIron_LB FINAL.pdf
(if it doesn't work, go to foundry networks website and look for serveriron link balancer)
they provide means of load balancing traffic across multiple links (max of 6 t3 or 2 oc3 capacity) without having to go through complex bgp stuff.

i'm sorry to say its: wii
no matter how it sucks, live with it.
i like those "page intentionally left blank" pages. oh wait, there's a lot of those returns and spaces to center it. never mind...
wait for a couple of days and they will announce a change in product name:
wiista
see, the data mining is already working spamming us /. users with dupes.
i know pronounce it as w i i or w double i. oh wait...

I tend to send around 300 to 400 emails a day.
