What I mean by that is, we only got those good expensive shows AFTER copyright infringement increased (via the internet). So by using Hollywood Fuzzy Logic, we got the shows BECAUSE of warez! Wohoo!!
> incredibly expensive shows like 24 and Lost WON'T EXIST if they can't make money.
But incredibly expensive shows like those didn't even exist back when the home video was making an appearence, and then too the media conglamorates said the same thing (but then it was about the movies).
Well, okay. So in a way they were right. TV is killing the movies -- at least quality wise -- but not because of home recording.
The most amazing thing of all is that the persons that were questioned, were forced to leave DNA. That's totally unheard of, and make one think that maybe this was done, and this will sound completely conspiracy nuts, on request from the US ("MPAA"). Collection of DNA has been reserved for severe crimes; Rape, murder, etc.
Personally I believe the goal here is to make an example of the ISP, PRQ. Taking non-related servers makes perfect sense in that context. They want to make sure no one dares host trackers, even if it's found to be legal! I believe the charges as they relate to "TPB" will be dropped, but they'll go ahead with materal found on the suspects home computers (sadly, it seems they weren't smart/careful enough to not sample their own warez, so to speak). However, for PR reasons they'll blur this issue, making a case against the individuals based on their home computers seem like a win against trackers.
Upgraded from latest Breezy to Dapper earlier today. Only had to download 594MB of archives, and it took 95 minutes in total (download+unpacking/configuring).
Also the type size is too small, seems to have lost a point. I'll have to go to "150%" (from 120%). Why is it that "designers" think that san-serif fonts in very small sizes is teh shit? It's really teh lame!
Thread the saving code. "Oh, you guys using Word have to wait for it to save?". Sure, it's complex and it's complexity at a place where you don't want it, but it can be done. Even something simple as making the document read only while saving, but allowing navigation, might be good enough to smooth things over.
There have been several WHQL releases since 84.21. nVidia only updates its homepage with complete driver sets, there are often WHQL'ed drivers released for a smaller range of their cards (like only 6 and 7-series).
In conjunction with this, nVidia are also today releasing their new Series 90 of drivers for Windows, the biggest visible change is a new configuration panel interface.
It's not time really, it is of course complexity of installation. They want to make it sound easy, as not to drive people off. Saying "it takes 2 minutes" is a succinct way of selling the product as a ''yes, even you can do it!''-kit.
The producers want to expand beyond the subset of/. crowd, after all.
warn the user there is a better way to do it; and then do it properly, automagically. It can't be that hard.

That would get ISP panties in a twist like nothing you've ever seen, and we don't want them to freak out, that would be bad not only for me, but for society as a whole, IMO. ("tier'd interenet" and all that).
It's not often that I go "wow" after a hardware upgrade. 486->pentium class. First Athlon. Virge3D ->3Dfx Voodoo 1 (glquake for teh win)... and just a week ago I went from a nVidia PCX5900 (and ATI 9600XT/256) to a 7900GT. Everything on High in BF2 (and 2x FSAA); smooth as butter. Going from 800x600 low textures, everything down in oblivion to 1280x960 HDR: Wow
More Patent Stupidity: How's this for slime? "On October 27, 2005, CVMS sent a request under the Freedom of Information Act to the Department of Energy requesting, among other things, copies of Bob Jacobsen's private email."
If all you cared about was speed, you'd go eSATA2 instead of USB or firewire, right? This product seems way expensive for a solution that doesn't even offer an eSATA- or LAN-connection
Sorry, since Ars redesigned away from the Black and Orange to that horrible mess, I don't come back.
"I could care less" when they mean exactly the opposite.
Yeah, right. If only there were other idioms where you say one thing and mean another.

I'd write something sarcastic, but I'm too tired. Just imagine it.

Personally I found Starcraft utterly DISAPPOINTING and very boring. It came out after Total Annihilation and had less of all, not the least 'fun'.
And no, I still don't understand how come millions of Asians drool all over it.
>any tips how to react in these situations: [...] CO: "Oh shut up, geek..."
How about ''That's Alpha Geek to you, newbie. Now listen and learn from your betters...''
Depending on setting you might want to slap cow-orker in the back of the head too.

I know I do.

Try putting a space in front (which is likely to happen when you're copy'n'pasting)

Yeah, but the correct bugfix is for people to fix their b0rken perceptions, not for everyone to dress up.

Just a matter of time. "tick, tock"
