  1. Re:Serious question. on Mozilla Foundation Donates $10K to OpenSSH · · Score: 1

Non profit is a charity. Religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, or educational purposes, and scientific organizations would qualify. Anything that qualifies as a 501(c)3 organization.

A Not for Profit is a company setup to not generate profits. They qualify as tax exempt but not as a charity for tax deductions. Anything other than a 501(c)3 organization. USPS would be a not for profit org.

Additionally, as OpenBSD is Canadian, see the following from the IRS:
Canadian charities. You may be able to deduct contributions to certain Canadian charitable organizations covered under an income tax treaty with Canada.

To deduct your contribution to a Canadian charity, you generally must have income from sources in Canada. See Publication 597, Information on the United States-Canada Income Tax Treaty, for information on how to figure your deduction.
So even if OpenBSD was a Canadian charity, most Americans could not deduct donations. So for an American to be able to make a deduction, an American resident of the OpenBSD Team would need to register OpenBSD as an American charity.

Mandriva does it easily with the wireless gui tool. I just entered in the wpa key and it just worked. It might also help that my wireless card has decent Linux support (Intel 2200BG).

I really don't see what the big hoopla about Ubuntu is. On a desktop it is OK, but I have found the GUI tools to be somewhat lacking. Editing the config files is a pain, particularly as I am not as familiar with Debian based fs layouts. I learned on RH and 'drake, so other distros feel clumsy. On a notebook, you really want Mandriva or SuSE. You can get other things to work, but how much effort do you want to spend on it?

I have actually eaten that many habeneros in one sitting. I was in college and heard that habeneros were hot and being that I liked spicy food figured I would give them a try in a stir fry. So I bought a dozen habeneros and some other peppers. I chopped them all up and put them in the stir fry. I probably should have realized that maybe I shouldn't have used so many when my fingers were stinging after handling the peppers. I definately realized my mistake when the steam and smoke from my cooking was described by my roommates as tear gas.

I still ate it though. I was a poor college student and this was 3 meals. I was drenched in sweat and drank a gallon of water by the time I had finished. I also ate four servings of rice and two wine coolers. And scarily enough, the process was repeated twice more.

I read ebooks on my PDA (a Sharp Zaurus), and the primary consideration is portability. I typically read on my lunch break. It is also nice to read in dark area without some external light source. I also pull it out when I am cooling my heels for ten minutes for an appointment.

I only buy Baen's stuff though. I am not putting up with DRM. Nor do I like the ephemeral nature of ebooks and the easy to loose files.

http://allofmp3.com/ acquired and distribute the music legally according to Russian law. This has been proven in a Russian court. A US citizen that buys music from http://allofmp3.com/ is not breaking any copyright statutes. You are toeing the legal line, but I do not have any moral or ethical problems with it. I do have moral and ethical problems supporting companies that employ a group to commit barristry to extort money. I also have problem with these same companies buying laws that twist our copyright laws into a mockery of what they are suspose to be.

Look fool, go read up on US copyright law. The relevant sections were already quoted to you, but if you don't trust it, then go find it yourself. Either it counts as importation of a phonograph and is legal for personal use, or else it is not classified as anything specific and basic copyright clauses ould apply and is legal.

The defining things are that http://allofmp3.com/ is technically legal in Russia. This has already been proven in a Russian court of law. It has not been proven legal in a US court of law, but probably will not go there as the RIAA would not want to risk it. Besides there is a barrier in place that will prevent the average Joe from using allofmp3.com.

Russia is notorious for hosting credit card scams. I took the precaution of generating a temporary card number and still need to personally tell my bank to authorize the transaction. That would be enough to scare away many users.

I agree. I am a big Mandriva supporter, and while I would like to see this succeed, I don't see myself using it. If my portable player will not support it, then I am not interested. So either download an Ogg file that is only playable on my computer (and PDA but hardly ever use it for music) or download a huge Flac file and then convert it to something more usable. I think I'll stick with allofmp3.com thanks anyway.
