If they were really annoyed, they would cut out all the pink contracts. If spam were not profitable to the ISPs, it would be gone faster than you can say "fees and surcharges".
You aparently know nothing about business or customers. I run and ISP and I loathe spam. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do about it. People want e-mail (we even have some bastard users who want spam).
Spam sucks, and it costs money in bandwidth (about 40% of all our bandwith is spam or spam bounce) but the only way to eliminate it is to drop e-mail all together, and that would cost us much more money.
In short, dealing with spam is cheaper than dropping e-mail, and thus we are stuck.
The choice of desktop is a good thing. For a new user to Linux that choice is left up to the distro, not the user. I've used RedHat, Mandrake, SUSE, TurboLinux and Debian. Those distros all had a default desktop (GNOME, KDE, KDE, AfterStep, and GNOME respectively) but I choose to use WindowMaker. In all recent versions of those distros the ability to switch desktops isn't advertised, but it's there. This is the way it's suposed to work. And it's the Right Way.
It's not condoning illegal activity. It's perfectly legal for me to rip my own cds to mp3. Given 2 computers using the same software, same options, and same hardware you'll end up with the same hash. Wanna try it? Rip a song, rename it and then rip it again. Check MD5. Oh, it matches? Duh.
Oh, and stop and think for a minute...Kazaa uses MD5 hashing to ensure that the file you're downloading from 8 different people is actually the same file on each of those 8 different sources.
Too many people can be falsely targeted by hash matching. Now pay attention everyone. If you stole your MP3's don't change the hash so the RIAA can come get you, ok? Now for everyone who ripped them yourself legally, make sure you change those files to give a different hash just for your own safety and privacy.
And be a dick about it. I can't count the number of times I've said "no way, I refuse and if you don't like it fire me"
I've also done this one "No that's stupid. I'll only do it if you force me and when we get hacked don't blame me"
Of course, you have to mean it, and don't do it over something trivial. I'll move buttons around forms all day long, but when they say "we want to add 400 users and make their password be 'password' so we don't have to remember what it is" a good ol' "KMA" works wonders.
Great, you've not only/.ed this poor saps website but now engrish.com too. Now you force us to sit there and incessantly hit reload until the pictures load.
Here's a novel idea. Try rubbing perpindicular. Rubbing parallel will only spin the wheel. Perpindicular (ie, at a right angle to) will keep the roller steady while you scrape the cruft away.
The Ask Slashdot pool must be running really low these days for something as stupid as this to be posted.
mbx2mbox attempts to convert Microsoft's proprietary.mbx and.dbx format mailboxes to the standard RFC822 mailboxes used by programs like Pine, Eudora, and Netscape.
This took me about 5 seconds to find, and 15 seconds to post the link. You owe me 10 seconds.
Maybe this will cause peopel to realize that Internet Explorer and Outlook Express AREN'T the only way to use the internet.
Not hardly. Do you realize how many sites block or do stupid things to web browsers that don't include "MSIE" in the Useragent string? MSN is no different.
Append "MSIE" to your Mozilla general.useragent.vendor string and watch how much web sites change.
I'll take 128-bit RSA over plaintext IMAP, POP3, and SMTP anyday. Joe Six Pack isn't sophisticated enough to use GPG/PGP or Client side certs, most ISP's don't offer TLS mail services, but that little lock icon keeps his pr0n, email forwards, and industrial espionage from being snooped by big brother.
Hmm, this is almost so trollish I hesitate to respond, however since you've gotten +4, there's aparently enough stupid people out there who believe you and you must be refuted.
Your mail is stored in plain text on the mail server unless you encrypt it with PGP. All dial up systems and 99% of cable/dsl ISPs are switch based, which means you can't snoop on your neighbor. The only person who can snoop on you is your ISP, but why do they need to sniff your password when they can just crack it right out of the passwd file in the first place? Why would they need to snarf your mail when they can just look on disk in the first place? Because of this, using SSL for IMAP or POP3 is false security, as in it's no security.
And since you're stupid enough to think your browser is sufficient protection for your e-mail, once it leaves your browser it's converted to plain text and sent on it's merry way to where ever it may want to go. Because of this, using SSL for SMTP is false security. It is no security.
What about passwords? Assuming someone was interested enough to want your password, IMAP encrypts it before sending anyway. Again, browser based SSL offers no additional protection.
It has been said "don't send anything in e-mail that you wouldn't put on a post card". Read that again because it's true.
For those of you not keeping score, if you want any security at all for e-mail, it MUST be PGP encrypted. Otherwise you're just waisting your time. Sorry to break the cold hard reality to you.
The suit is basically a slandar suit. RH is suing for injunctive action. Basically, asking the courts to order SCO to disclose any evidence they have, or to STFU.
SCO will have to prove in court that they have a right to make the claims they are making. When SUSE did this in Germany SCO backed down. Red Hat is making a similar move here.
There are only a few possible outcomes: 1. SCO shuts up, IBM trial goes on with out SCO's media parade. 2. SCO reveals their evidence
A. They have none, destroying the IBM suit and putting an end to all of this
B. They do have some but it's libelous, destroying the IBM suit and putting an end to all of this
C. They do have some, RedHat looks bad, IBM looks bad, Linux looks bad. SCO becomes blabbermouths in Germany again. Linus has a chance to remove offending code and we can all get on with our lives.
Mmmm...Airship.
Just call me Cid.
You forget. Taco's geek code says he's y+++.

And just in case anyone wants to store their MP3s (or whatever) on an encrypted file system here's Abe's Linux Encrypted File System Howto.
Have a lot of fun!

Why applescript?
I've got a better question.
What am I going to do with the other 22 hours?
Great, you've not only /.ed this poor saps website but now engrish.com too. Now you force us to sit there and incessantly hit reload until the pictures load.
YHBT.
YHL.
HAND.
I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but interestingly enough, Network Associates VirusScan and Sniffer products detect and block Nachi.

He lies, nothing of interest on his site, certainly nothing to do with GNOME, no screenshots
And Nautilus does it automatically.
If you were yere yesterday you wouldn't be asking such a stupid question.
Then again, I guess that I'm the fool for responding to you since it's obvious you don't come here enough to know that someone is talking to you.

Hi Wil.
The really funny thing about this, is that SCO claims the infringing code is for SMP, NUMA, and RCU, which are all multi-proccessor technologies.
I think instead I'll just send SCO 1 copy of a picture of my middle finger for every processor I have that Linux is running on and call it even.

Nothing but good can come out of this move.
Looked it up?
