I hate it when summaries/articles give incomplete information, like this:
A new $1,200 machine that uses the same amount of power as three light bulbs promises to condense drinkable water out of the air [...]"
OK, it uses the same amount of power as three light bulbs when it's operating, but how long does it take to generate a liter of water? Without this, the "three light bulbs" is meaningless.
Like the streets aren't dangerous enough without every iPhone user fiddling with their toy trying to "beat the system" while piloting a two ton juggernaut on public streets.
Yeah because speech alerts are really distracting. Did you even read the articles?
This guy was probably posting from his iPhone while driving, and skipped the article for safety reasons.
If it was found that mass and energy didn't convert, we could just set c to zero and E=mc^2 would still hold. Or redefine n^2 to always equal zero. That wouldn't require upsetting c, which might be useful.
Yeah, flags are overrated, and hurt performance when accessed directly on RISC architectures, though carry can be really useful. Wait, what were we talking about again?
Aren't we missing the "disk drive", that is, the womb and whatever else surrounded the DNA (egg?). Or has the "drive" changed little enough that current "models" will work? It seems a problem, sort of like archiving a bunch of data and including plans for the drive needed to read the disk it's encoded on, but of course you need the drive before you can read the plans to construct one. (sorry for not using a car analogy)
No advertising here, just a happy math nerd who was recently investigating alternatives like Maxima and SciLab himself recently, and was impressed that the new version of Mathematica leapfrogged them all by doing much more instead of just doing what it does faster.
Right you are sonny! In my day, we had to crank our computers to boot them. And we had to crank them to shut down. And we got paid for that work, yes we did!
Never mind gender equality, how about hair-color equality? I think there is a severe imbalance of certain colors. Obviously this is due to discrimination, since hair color is to easy to deteremine, even from a block away.
A few years ago, I was approached by someone canvassing for support as a candidate for the post of Women's Officer in my student union (there is no Men's Officer). She said 'Women make up 52% of the population, don't you think we should protect this minority?' Needless to say, she didn't get my vote.
You should have suggested she run for Women's Remedial Math Officer.
I always thought those so-called foil chip bags were just plastic with some silver non-metal coating, so the consumer would think they stay fresher. But I guess a microwave tells a different story.
I thought science's answer was the honest "we don't know everything, but we're working on finding out more". Which is different in that it doesn't put having an answer ahead of of having a true answer (if such even exists). And it loves it when someone comes along and shows why the best current answer is wrong, since that opens the way for an better answer.
There's also a Javascipt version that's much more light-weight. I found a Java version as well, but it requires that the user compile the sources before it can even be used.
How funny, I first thought this was about DNF as well. But then I remembered the global financial situation and figured it's probably been delayed until... well delayed somehow beyond never, if that's possible.
It always seemed to me that measuring Human complexity based on the number of our genes is a little like judging a book by the number of words it contains. It completely ignores the fact that words have Meaning.
Since we're on the subject, what is the meaning of the capitalization of the words "human" and "meaning" above? The latter seems to be for emphasis, but I don't see why emphasizing "human" would help make the point.

And if we change the units of m, we can just say E = m. But that loses its mass-appeal since it doesn't seem mathematical anymore.

More likely it's a well-executed prank by the grade shool kids. "Sure, we put two spiders in there. Something must have happened to one..."
Whitespace is my code, you insensitive clod!
Let me know when it leapfrogs them in openness.
Right you are sonny! In my day, we had to crank our computers to boot them. And we had to crank them to shut down. And we got paid for that work, yes we did!
Tangential question: why do you both indent your paragraphs and put whitespace between them? Either one alone is sufficient.

Obviously, they're waiting for computer science to catch up, especially in the multi-threading area.
No wonder I've never been attracted to Java's garbage collector.

In 2005 a bus company sued cleaning ladies who carpooled, claiming "unfair and parasitical competition".
Some of the best ones, with direct links to the mp3s (on Coral Cache):

Many in the world are "addicted" to having electric power, lights at night, air conditioning/heat, social contact, etc.
And as a bonus, it can be used as a source of random bits, after base-64 decoding.
