    They also want to nickel and dime you on the content you consume. Sure, there are some free apps, and some free music, and some free videos.. but you are still in their store getting it.

    Speaking of intellectually dishonest... have you never heard of simply encoding your own music and videos and loading them up?

    As for applications, well, yeah, some people want to get paid for the applications they write. That's their choice thanks to a lovely concept called "copyright law". If you don't like it, stick to the free alternatives, or move to another country where they don't have such a concept.

    Oh, well, that totally invalidates his point about the droid 2...

    Besides, given the Droid 2 is locked down, I think it safe to say that's what Motorola intended from the get-go. They just happened to fail with the Droid 1.

    Of course, that would be silly, as the carriers and device manufacturers are Google's customers. Not us. Them. Anyone who claims otherwise doesn't understand the telecom business.

    The real question is, *why* is Google pushing to get into mobile? The obvious answer is that it gives them a whole new avenue for advertising, data gathering, etc. Google TV? Same thing.

    Weird that you say that given that, at its core, Windows NT and on is architected as a microkernel with large swathes of the OS running in user space. Meanwhile, the operating system has a very powerful fine-grained access control scheme (which can actually be a pain in the arse, sometimes, due to its complexity). The real problem was always legacy applications.

    Unfortunately, it wasn't until later that OSX proved that breaking away from that legacy and using virtualization as a transition mechanism could work, as computers are sufficiently powerful, these days, to make that an option.

    We need the vendors like Linksys, Belkin, Apple, Netgear, Motorola and others who make the home routers, cable/ADSL modems and modem/router combos to start supporting IPv6.

    When the heck did you last survey the industry? 2001? These devices already exist. Heck, I bought an $80 consumer-grade 802.11n router that does IPv6 out of the box. And Apple's Airport has supported v6 for years. Even my freakin' iPod Touch supports IPv6 out of the box.

    Yeah, the UID's primary use is in linking back user activities directly to a particular FB account. So while this doesn't expose private information in the FB account itself, it does make it trivial to correlate activities from various apps in order to build a more detailed profile of a given FB user.

    And before you start point out how Android has good quality apps, or Apple's vetting process doesn't prevent malware or something... fuck off, I don't care. You claimed people don't see an advantage in Apple's system. I'm only pointing out the common advantages people claim to see, and am not making any statements regarding the worthiness of those claims, nor do I have any interest in discussing it.

    You have an idiotic, simplistic, idealized view of eastern societies in general, and "honour-based societies" in particular. Your views on these cultures betray your life as a basement dweller idealizing Klingons and ninjas in bad action films. Your views are no more grounded or realistic than The Karate Kid, and are about as useful in dealing with the real life problems of American society as the Crane Kick is in a street fight.

    I proposed Opera as an alternative which had those things built in, and they said they didn't like Opera because it didn't have extensions.

    And did you delve deeper? Did you ask them what extensions they use? Because I can't imagine someone simply saying "the browser must be extensible through add-on components" without having a particular reason to want that feature (ie, specific extensions they use daily).
