I think you are falling for a false stereotype. Gamers are great patrons. I live in Indianapolis and Gen Con is hosted here. Every year I see stories on the local news talking about how the local businesses love the Gen Con attendees. This year I saw the owner of The Ram, a local restaurant/brew house, on the news talking about how great the business was during Gen Con and how his staff enjoyed working during the event. They wouldn't be saying that if they were all sitting around drinking water and taking up space.
How do you keep your children away from drugs, cursing, promiscuous activity, and other undesirable things?
You can't be with your children 24/7, and they will leave the house someday (no basement jokes needed). You need to train them to think for themselves, and how to recognize good and bad decisions before they learn the hard way.
A measure of character is how you act when nobody is watching. Do you want a child that knows he shouldn't be looking at midgets with horses porn, and keeps his own activity in check? Or do you want a child that you have to keep in check using technological measures?
I wonder if people once had the same discussion about chastity belts.....
Hey NBC: I have chosen not to have cable, but want to pay you for Heroes. Guess what my only alternative will be if you pull it from iTunes? I know you meant to imply your only alternative would be illegally downloading the show, but you have plenty of options if you really must watch Heroes.
1) Use an Antenna. It's called broadcast TV. 2) Go to a friends house. You do have friends right? 3) Go out to a public place that has Heroes on their TV. 4) Wait to buy the DVD's.
Most of these options don't even involve paying NBC.
Yes, a little hyperbole in my reply, but no more than "Guess what my only alternative will be".
That's still breeding dependency on a government check. It is logically different then welfare, but functionally too similar.
I agree, but the prebate needs to be in there for this to go through. With no prebate there will be cries of "taxing the poor". The poor don't pay into the system now so this will be no different. The important thing is to get the Fair Tax in place since it fixes so many things. In the future if people recognize the dependency issues of the prebate maybe it can be removed.
It is a prebate, not a rebate. It has nothing to do with how much you pay in taxes. It is a set amount sent at the beginning of the month.
"The monthly prebate check is calculated by multiplying the annual poverty level spending published each year by the Department of Health and Human Services times the FairTax rate and dividing by twelve. Poverty level spending represents what it costs families of varying household size and composition to buy their necessities." Source
it puts the squeeze on people who need to spend most of their income on those basic necessities of life.
No, there is a prebate for the necessities of life. See the details.
"Under the FairTax, all Americans consume what they see as their necessities of life free of tax. While permitting no exemptions, the FairTax (HR 25) provides a monthly universal prebate to ensure that each family unit can consume tax free at or beyond the poverty level, with the overall effect of making the FairTax progressive in application."
Can you point to a properly conducted blind test that supports your premise, that viewers cannot distinguish between these?
I was just summarizing the article. You might want to direct your questions to the author of the article.
I don't have an HDTV yet, but I still plan on going for a 50" 1080p HDTV. I won't be happy unless I know my equipment is capable of displaying the full resolution of future source material. That is why I have a Wii, and not a 360. I knew the 360 would make me want to go out and drop cash on a HDTV just because I want to fully utilize the hardware.
If you do the math you come to the conclusion that the human eye can't distinguish between 720p and 1080p when viewing a 50" screen from 8' away. However, 1080p can be very useful for much larger screen sizes, and is handy to have when viewing 1080i content.
I would take "a persistent inability for Nintendo to keep units on the shelves" as a sign of continued interest.
Also, some anecdotal evidence. Yesterday when I was looking through the Best Buy ad I noticed that Wii Play had been released. I called three local Best Buys and all of them had sold out of Wii Play.
I think the steady stream of classic games like Mario Kart, and Super Mario World are helping out too.
I don't see how any man can ethically justify excluding others from the land in which they live.
Nobody is being excluded. They are just being told to get in line.
You can hold people back from coming in for the same reason you can stop people from getting in a lifeboat. A lifeboat can only handle a certain amount of people before it also sinks, and then everyone is screwed.
There needs to be a controlled flow of people into the US. If the US declared "All who come will be citizens, and there is no limit." it would collapse. Don't believe me? Look at France. We can argue whether the current flow is enough, or about how to improve the process. Just don't tell me we can't keep that flow orderly to ensure that the US remains a place people want to come to.
This is for those of you that want to know what Kevin said, but don't want to read the spoilers. Here is a brief and concise quote from the beginning.
"Revenge of the Sith" is, quite simply, fucking awesome. This is the "Star Wars" prequel the haters have been bitching for since "Menace" came out, and if they don't cop to that when they finally see it, they're lying. As dark as "Empire" was, this movie goes a thousand times darker...
Human: Who is the Pope? ALICE: he is John Paul II. Human: You are wrong. ALICE: No, I am right. Human: You are wrong, because the Pope is Benedict XVI. ALICE: No, I am right.
From TFA: The idea of blocking access where someone is using a lot of bandwidth just doesn't work. What if they're using a webcam? Or voice over internet? They all use similar ports as some of the file-sharing systems. There's no real way of determining whether just because someone's using a lot of bandwidth that they're contravening copyright.
They can have my bandwidth when they pry it out of my COLD DEAD HANDS. I only have 768k upstream right now, and there will be hell to pay if they want to remove accounts for actually using the allotted amount.
Give in to the darkside. I did and now have the power of 6down/768up. Throw on Vonage and you can get rid of your phone company. Now you only have to deal with one utility service instead of two.;)
But it is the *ONLY* box that does what it does. 2 OTA tuners, 2 Satellite Tuners, both OTA and Satellite HD...
My Comcast HD DVR has 2 tuners, and doesn't need an OTA setup since Comcast carries my local HD channels in their lineup. I only have to pay $5 a month, and when the box becomes obsolete I can swap it out for a new one.
I remember this crushing migraines those blue/red 3D glasses left me with. However this works, I hope they've really tested it. It's all good clean fun, until you realize it screws up your eyes like the Opti-Grab and people sue Lucas, Cameron and the theaters for all they've got.
Here is a Peter Jackson quote from TFA.:)
"Forget the old days of wearing the red and blue glasses and the eyestrain. All of that is behind us now. These new active glasses that you're wearing and seeing 3-D with are a breakthrough in technology."
The engineers, Citron said, "could talk to the [customer's] box, but the box couldn't talk to [Vonage's] server, and it only couldn't talk SIP. We thought, Ah! There must be something going on here. So my guys just changed the SIP ports to something different, and 'schwing!' The service worked just fine."
This has to be the first time a CEO has used the word 'schwing!' in an official interview.

If this becomes standard practice I predict the new common password will be "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog".

You can't get rid of Caps Lock.
Won't someone think of the COBOL programmers?
If you could join a union in your workplace, would you?
Hell no!
Thanks for asking though.
And why does everything have to be 3D now? Why can't we just have a good side scroller?

Well, isn't that special.

Anybody else see this and think of a Western Digital 4.2GB hard drive? :)
