    Rumor is that Mint 17 has the kernel from Ubuntu 14.04, and some stuff doesn't work (touchpad, wifi?) but Ubuntu 14.10 runs fine, and the newest Mint should follow soon.

  9. There's a 7 GB recovery partition on that HP, that would be the first to go.

    On my present HP laptop my biggest OS/apps partition has 13 GB in it. My current Mint 17 is under 7 GB. Of course Windows and some huge antivirus plus Office won't fit in that, but I'll never have to worry about that again. I'd be very comfortable with a 64 GB SSD. Another 64 in a SD would be just overkill.

    Twice this year we've done the Nielsen week-long rating. Our TV viewing comprised 15 minutes of the noon news, and an hour of "Mr. Selfridge", "Downton Abbey" or "Call the Midwife" on PBS. I think they sent it to us again to see if we were lying. Nope. We don't have cable; we pay to have trash hauled out, so why pay to have it delivered?

    "57 channels and Nuthin On."

    I've always saved until I could pay cash. My first car cost $75, lasted 3 years, sold for $75. My last was $12K, 1 year old Caliber, wife loves it.
