My cheap HP (G62) had the video die in low res. I haven't fixed it, just wait for the hi res screen to boot. If I have to change distros (I usually run Mint) I plug it in an external monitor so I can see the boot screen.
Bottom line: two companies to avoid are Packard and Hewlett.
The Electro-Voice Rearaxial Softspeaker from about 1966 is a real hoot.
Some microwave components company put out a "Our Company" pamphlet that was a real knee-slapper. It had the usual corporate description of operations with 1920's era photographs. "Our retirement plan...." a graveyard.
In order for H2 cars to be truly green, you have to take water and split it and vent the oxygen. So you get the water back when you run your fuel cell car, and all is right again with the world.
Now all we need is a way of turning sunbeams into electricity, and we're all set. Of course, you could just charge up batteries instead, much more efficiently. You can't burn coal to make the electricity without blowing your green cred. Using oil, natural gas, etc. to make hydrogen, is even worse because they're fossil fuels and also increase CO2. .
Actually, there's a lot of "Belgian style" beers marketed to Americans that consist of lager with clove extract and orange oil thrown in. Uh uh. If you want to avoid a trip to Flanders, the best you can do in this country is the Ommegang brewery in Cooperstown, NY.

We had Xerox word processors that had screens in portrait orientation. You could see exactly what your document would look like when printed. They used 8 inch floppies for storage.
"Hold on, I'll get my credit card". Go to bathroom with telephone, hold it so the scammer gets an earful. Extra points for a #2. "Sorry, I had to go potty. Oh, I just remembered, my PC runs openSUSE and that's not a real Windows, is it?"

Which choice makes less money for either Microsoft or Google?
Why can I only get internet from Time Warner?
Or cover it with goop.
The cynic in ME says Gnome kept this going -or even started it, in collusion with Groupon - to get publicity for Gnome.
It's almost as dangerous as Ebola!
