You said we don't need competition, yet Apple and Linux are in competition with UNIX.
Ideas come out, it doesn't matter which environment they came out from. What matters is that they evolved thanks to capitalism. Ideas who don't have enough money thrown at them will eventually fade away and die. Look at OS/2.
Hey, you don't like capitalism go to Cuba. Fidel Kastro will welcome you personally.
They're somewhat right. RedHat at first was agressive on marketing Linux. However, the last couple of years they haven't done much for promoting Linux, except testifying at MS's trial. Nowadays you hear more about Mandrake in the news than about RedHat.
RedHat must develop new products, put it's ads on TV, web, magasines, etc.
Without Capitalism and competition we would be using UNIX by now (not many people would be using computers actually). No MS, no Apple, no Linux, no OS/2, etc.
1 - Confusing interface 2 - One Button Mouse 3 - Customization and configuration is hard to grasp 4 - Expensive Hardware 5 - Apple is unpredictable 6 - Proprietary platform 7 - OS X is kinda slow 8 - I don't like Steve Jobs (I gotta be honest) 9 - We've heard about Apple treatening many Open Source projects (ie. Themes.org OSX theme)
While we're still waiting for the Java OS, Sun comes with an even wilder idea. There ideas continue to impress, there accomplishments however, well that's another story.
Sure but RedHat's market isn't the desktop. It's all about the server side for them. If RedHat was targeting the desktop, there CEO wouldn't have said that Linux will not make it on the desktop.
You want a desktop distribution? Try Mandrake. A little bloated but pretty good.
I have RedHat 7.2 w/GNOME on my laptop and Mandrake 8.2 w/KDE on my desktop. Weird enough, a few days ago my GNOME desktop freezes and I couldn't do the CTRL-ALT-BCKSPACE , nothing worked. Then yesterday, my KDE freezes and I couldn't do anything either. I had to reboot.
I remember the days when they weren't so damn bloated and when Linux meant "fast/light/stable". Nowadays with recent distros, it takes over 40 seconds to boot into Linux. Linux is becoming more and more like Windows.

True, but remember that it's the same thing for at least 95% of security issues. Dumb and extremely busy admins will go with the default install and they usually won't even customize the software. So who gets the blame? MS, IBM, Sun, Linux, etc.
Linus doesn't believe that designing software is that important.

:) Maybe now he knows what Apple is made of.
For that, he gets a slap in the face from Apple

laws who cares about laws? Haven't the DMCA taught you anything yet?
So, if I'm right, you'll switch to Linux when Linux behaves like OS X? Then why not stick with OS X?

Ever heard of SMS? If not, you can always write a Perl, Python, VB, ASP, PHP, Java script to check each w2k system.
You can say it's a bug, for me it's a feature :)
Don't you guys remember when Oracle started advertising their database server as unbreakable?
but this will cost an arm and a leg

Maybe those who donated over $60 don't want to see part of their money go to Sun. Did Mandrake think about that? Apparently not.
RMS says that everything non GPL is evil. Hey looks like he got something in common with Bush :)
He should give us something to work with. A man with a beard have plenty of secrets, let them be known. Open Source them :)
"dedicating yourself to an ideal, and working ceaslessly in its pursuit, is more than interesting: it's admirable"
You mean like serial killers or terrorists? Do you find them admirable?

I remember some Lotus users who kept telling us how Sendmail and Exchange where so horribly insecure. That'll teach them :)
No clustered indexes? What do you do when a table has millions of rows?
You got something against Open Source, Linux and Anarchy?

Ever heard of consultants? Ever heard of disaster recovery?
If it was MS that was allowing people to play on the Xbox, most of you would be bashing MS for it.
