I think hackers in general really need to work on getting their ideas across to the more average person
If everyone were to do that, nothing would ever get done because we'd all be writing tutorials (no offense). In any field--hell, in life--you learn to denote complex semantics with symbols so you can then refer to even more complex semantics. Those symbols might be words like "disk layer" or "dog" or "average person" or whatever. To have to constantly explain the never ending chain of meaning of the composite parts to the would be fruitless.
I agree with you. But I've noticed that mario sunshine makes me feel pretty violent. More so than GTA or other "violent", "adult" games, anyway. I can't stand more than 20 minutes or so of it without getting pissed off and throwing the controller.
I'm sure interrest could be affected if people could, say, vote on what would be converted. Or do I make any sense?
I'm trying to make sense of this, please help me out. Are you saying that if people could vote on which books are converted (or "electronificated" as we sometimes call it in the industry), that more people might be interested in the project?
I think moderation could work if it was done properly. It's just the slashdot implementation that is shit. And they can't really change it now (well they *could* but I don't see that happening). They could have used a network flow model, or even use pagerank. This is an idea that would work.
That's the spirit. Hey, I just bought an American flag sticker today, but I didn't put it on my bumper. Nah, that's not appropriate for my country, instead I put it smack dab in the middle of the gas cap on my BMW. God Bless America!
Ok the analogy was weak to begin with, but for sake of argument Ford doesn't usually give away free cars. If they do, chances are that it's some sweepstakes marketing campaign. The only people they would exclude based on company affiliation would be Ford employees.
No, what's different is that when you buy a Ford, you aren't told (in a legally binding way), "you can drive this car as long as you don't work for one of our competitors." This has nothing to do with the availability of source code.
This book should have RedHat customers hammering at the gates of Raleigh, demanding the power of iterators and list comprehensions that their SuSE counterparts already enjoy by default; it demonstrates the superiority of Python 2.2.* over 1.5.2 in great detail.
I've been seeing a lot of complete shit like this lately. What ever happened to compiling it? Jesus. It might make your review seem a bit more credible if you said "despite all the new stuff that keeps appearing in python, their online documentation is excellent so be sure to download the newest version at www.python.org". Or something. Nah...you have to turn it into some kind of distro bashing.
I must urge the free people of the world to root out these cells, and prevent their evil ways from spoiling our way of life. We must support a preemptive strike! We must initiate a regime change! How many more Americans must die because of these suicidal cells. It's biological terrorism and we must put a stop to it, or watch our children suffer.
Let me try to follow your logic. If it was one computer it would presumably be "real computing power". But if thousands of computers were used it would be fake. Hmmm. A distributed architecture that has varying numbers of participants (and thus computing power) at any given time, is not any less "real" than a single dedicated cpu or even a large cluster. Participant interest is completely irrelevant. You might want to take your own advice and "Don't post comments without thinking. It can only lead to trouble."
I take it you don't have a flash advance card. That would be higher up on the list than a simple light. I personally prefer the Flash 2 Advance to the stuff made by Visoly, but they are harder to find. I heard there are problems with customs seizing these things from some of the larger companies (e.g. Lik-Sang) especially when shipped via UPS, but if you go with a smaller company and ship via EMS Speedpost (assuming it's coming from Hong Kong) there are fewer problems. The place I bought mine from was cool enough to put down that it was a gift worth $30 on the customs form and it was shipped with no mention of a company on the return address.
Nope. It's now $1999 for maya complete. The biggest differences are that the file formats between the two versions are completely incompatible, and the personal learning edition has these really annoying overlays on just about everything. Otherwise the PLE version is kickass, and successfully lets people learn how to use maya without warezing it.
Considering the keyboard is fashioned out of calf ivory and pressed rhino horn, they sell for around $8k. (Well, at least they *did* 3 years ago.) That kind of money goes far on the "dark continent".
Shit. I wish. Do you know what a complete pain in the ass it is to get a hold of a good yo-yo anymore? Yeah, you've got to order them online! I went to 8 different toy stores the other day trying to find a Duncan Freehand 2. Only ONE store had anything resembling a yo-yo, and it was just a vanilla Playmaxx wood axle ProYo. Sigh.

Most of them are covered by the wad of blu tack he keeps in his pocket. It's got 1001 uses, you know.
It's already on alt.binaries.movies.divx.
Not that I give a shit. I didn't particularly like the first one.

Not when the authors have been dead for 300 years.

Read the pamphlet and all will be revealed. No, maybe most will. Or some.

I was referring to a more physical form of the word connected. *cough*
home cooking is some of the best and the only true way to connect with your food
Tell that to the pumpkin I connected with last night. Or the liver last week.
Wow. Talk about nostalgia. I vaguely remember playing with the Fairchild Channel F (on a tiny black and white tv) when I was a kid.

Hmmm. Pretty funny how the "moon" is known as J002E2 and you were modded down as offtopic. Typical.

Well it's like a degree in EE but with no strings attached. *cough*
If you use emacs check out speedbar.

email marketing. It works, and developers really appreciate the convenience of receiving email marketing.
