Don't worry, within a couple weeks of release, any "rights management" will be able to be disabled. Every new copy protection scheme is broken pretty quickly after it comes out, but still they waste their time coming up with them.
These things will make great little cheap ($299!) web servers... 600mhz cpu, 64mb ram (hopefully upgradable) 8-50mb HD, 100mbps ethernet.. What more do you need?
Even better than that, I've been getting snailmail spam from people who got my address from my NSI whois. They've been from "reputable" companies too, so I think they were probably BOUGHT from NSI
Ever spend time in #linux? There is a constant flood of people coming in and asking fairly stupid questions they could easily find an answer to if they did a search on google. Most of the rudeness is basically "RTFM, newbie!" which people should have done in the first place. Answer them and you've helped them solve one problem... send them to the man/HOW-TO/FAQ and you've helped them solve most of their problems.
I like the Stephenson version of cyberspace much better, where it is more like a virtual city than a flat plane with a bunch of geometric shapes sticking out of it... Sort of like Mozilla crossed with Quake 3. Easily doable with today's tech. I planned it all out years ago but never got around to coding it... Maybe I should start up a sourceforge project;)
Not everyone does.. Why does everyone watch Third Rock or Felicity? I've watched them twice and they're complete crap too! Gee, I guess everyone likes different things...
Of course, one of the biggest mistakes they made with gnutella is not putting in some way to block dialup users. There should be some kind of bandwidth checking in the connect code. Maybe have it send 50K of random data from the node being connected to which then times how long it takes to get back the CRC of that data, more than 3 seconds and no connect. That would cut out all the slow users and keep ping times between nodes to a minimum.
Hmm... maybe I should go hack the gnut code and put up a high bandwidth only net.
Out here in BC cable sucks ass. Some of my cable buddies frequently vanish from ICQ for days because their @home went down. Sucks for them. My ADSL (Telus, 2.5Mbit, $65, 5 semi-dynamic IPs) has been down maybe 5 hours in the past 2 years. I'm moving soon and I'll have to base my decision on where to go on whether there is ADSL service in that area, because it would SUCK having to switch to cable.

I found The Big U in .txt format on Gnutella (or was it alt.binaries.ebooks?) Poke around and you may be able to find it yourself... the_big_u.txt

Well you can get PalmOS emulators for linux, so if you were running a linux PDA you could have it both ways.

Maybe they realized it would get hacked days after release so they didn't bother.
They're going to watermark CD's? Does that mean they'll want everyone to fill out a form and agree to the ToS at the record store?
I don't buy software, and it's all free!
And another.... http://209.53.1.1
Not available in the Great White North. Bastards!
Nah, a portscan is more like taking a picture of the outside of a crimescene to see how many windows and doors the building has
Yeah, but he was framed! It was actually a hit on that Goldman guy and they decided to whack Nicole too so they could let OJ take the fall.
Time for another one!
But if you say "Eat a dick, pig!" there wouldn't be any way they could use that as evidence against you.
I find it funny when someone has nothing better to do than correct spelling.
That's when you give them the OTHER password... the one that wipes the filesystem by writing random data over it a few times, then 0's
For the price of your iMac, you could have got a nice PC, a DVD player AND a console...
People are too lazy to stand up for their rights unless there is no choice
Another right taken away! The right to do what you want with YOUR OWN HOME... Building codes my ass!
Uhh, dude... your county has no cultural purity.. Melting pot, remember?
