I'm not too sure about that, but if your main desire is just to support Mandrake, and have a credit card, you could get a one year subscription to the Mandrake Club for probably about the same price ($60US, so about $120NZ, for a year's subscription). That gets you a small set of benefits, but most of all supports Mandrake.
Exactly, could you imagine the outcry from parents when their little kid starts looking up pr0n online? Is it unfair for a school, which specifically is giving the internet for educational purposes, to stop it being used for pornography?
Really, some people do take anti-censorship WAAAY too far.
It probably depends a lot on the spam too. Perhaps a unique spam may get a tiny number of responses, but the 500th "make money fast" to arrive in my mailbox isn't going to get much more luck than the first 499. While I have seen the 0.02% figure elsewhere, I do remember other testemonials that it basically gets no responses whatsoever.
Could this technique be changed. Rather than generating a mailbox for the spam to go to, based on IP, instead generate the abuse address for the IP's netblock owner.
That way, whoever is running the spider can start spamming direct to the abuse address, saving the site owner from having to report them.:)
Yes, but guess what M$ have decided to make a compulsory add-on to windows XP. Yep, that's right, Messenger. I can just wait for the argument as to why "messenger is an essential part of windows".
Oh, c'mon, what do SourceForge actually have that's of any concern. Oh my god, your email address! NOOOO!!! I think that's why it's not that big a deal.
Besides, as he said, it's a free service, it's not unreasonable to have strings attached to a free service, it's still not a bad deal.
But it's something which has basically no purpose than that which is illegal.
I want to buy a gun, and be able to shoot people with it, it's mine to do with as I please. I want to buy chemicals, and make drugs out of them, after all, they are mine to do with as I please.
You think that's a problem? Check out the entire section on this in the NSW state constitution.
The Legislature shall, subject to the provisions of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act, have power to make laws for the peace, welfare, and good government of New South Wales in all cases whatsoever: Provided that all Bills for appropriating any part of the public revenue, or for imposing any new rate, tax or impost, shall originate in the Legislative Assembly.
Basically, this says "The NSW government can do whatever the hell it feels like, except a few things only the federal government can do". So there's NO restrictions at all. However, I must admit I prefer it this way on the whole, as a constitutional bill of rights can be problematic, and in reality, I don't consider there to be any real possibility of extreme rights abuses in the forseeable future.
Sony Management Office "Boss, the Monsters Inc. Playstation game has been finished"
"Excellent, what have we done to stop those Australians from getting it"
"Well boss, every time it starts up, we have an image of Harry raping a prostitute, that ought to get it banned there"
"Excellent -evil laugh-"
Seriously, it's not like they could or would do that, unless they want every game to be rated adults-only worldwide.
As I understand, there are two types of mod chip, ones which only undo region coding, and ones which also override copy protection. I'm 100% for the anti-region coding ones, but when they are available, what honest justification is there to support the ones that override copy protection? Seriously, it's pretty rare that anyone needs to play a copy, apart from the exceptionally rare legitimate backup.
As an Australian uni student, I can agree funding would be nice, but nothing seems to be going too horribly. My uni (UTS) is even expanding this year. Don't get me wrong, I think Johnny Howard is an idiot.
Let me take a wild guess and ask if you voted for your local "Left Action" student association party? (aka, hippies who like to protest about EVERYTHING).
Seriously though, our government may have little clue when it comes to reality (the internet censorship being case in point), but they aren't that bad. In fact, there are even plans to FINALLY introduce that R18+ rating for computer games even.
Brian Harradine hasn't been in government for years. Unless I'm much mistaken, he finished up his senate term in 1998,. Also, what did he have to do with DVDs?
You clearly don't watch cricket. We've had plenty of scandals with mikes being on when people didn't realise it.
These have ranged from swearing, insulting players, to worse. In one case, they had a camera looking at the church next to the ground where a couple happened to be having a wedding, and one of the commentators, not realising his mike was on, said it looked like it was a fraudulent "mail-order" marriage.
I'm not saying WINE should be the only thing anyone works on. What I propose is that we offer everything windows has and more, as opposed to what you suggest in offering only alternatives.
Not everyone wants alternatives, no matter how good they are, some people just cannot yet live without their Office/Outlook/whatever. No matter how foolish and narrow minded those people are, they are the user, and they are the person we must cater to.
Umm.. that's not quite what he was saying. He was saying that reproducing windows functionality is a good thing, as it removes the app barrier when moving between systems. If linux could have complete Windows functionality, then the only difference between the two would be that linux has some linux-only apps Windows can't use, and linux is cheaper.
The whole thing which keeps Windows in front of Linux, apart from a few familiarity of interface issues, is that people are dependent on some windows apps. It's all fine and dandy to say "we have a replacement, you don't need that app", but they want to use their Windows apps, and the user should get what they want, not just what we feed them. Let them keep their old apps, and hopefully, they can then be weaned over.
Hey, cool, I'm one of the posters in the example thread for how crap the current moderators are. I'm a post pointing out that the earlier moderations were unfair, making reasonable comments, and even made an on-topic comment. Of course, that earned me a mod down until a benevolent mod put me back up.
I've been a mod three times (all in the last few weeks for some reason), and I have never abused my power like that. I read the moderator guidelines, which SPECIFICALLY say "concentrate on modding up, not down". I will typically make about 4 mods up, and one down (who is invariably a clear troll), and try to make the ones I mod up sensible ones not already modded super-high.
People, those of you who want good modding, I suggest you meta-moderate at every chance. Not only does it scrutinise the mods of others, but it would appear to me that meta-moderating a few times significantly increases your chances of being given a moderator status, allowing you to continue the work.
Unfortunately I don't have a link through to the page with the benchmarks, but the 2.4 VM systems (both versions of it) completely kicked the pants off 2.2 in every test. Though I guess it may be something specific to your computer use, or just something which didn't show in the benchmarks ("there are lies, damned lies, and benchmarks").
What is going on? Even you have now been modded down, for your very legitimate complaints about modding practices. I even had it happen to me a little while back, though thankfully a more benevolent moderator modded me back up.
Anyway, just so that I'm not accused of having a totally contentless post, I'll make some minor, yet semi-relevant comment.
I'm looking forward to testing the 2.5 series, but at the moment, they have barely anything more to offer over 2.4 at the moment, so why should Joe Average bother yet?
What the hell are you talking about? I'm an Australian, and there are plenty of unlimited plans (my cable included). In fact, virtually nobody pays by MB. Or are you just spelling "Austria" very poorly?

That's right. I'm sad to see that you had such a low esteem of me you thought I might be running XP. :)
I wouldn't put it past some people.

Then why does the link given above say that there is such a mod chip? Not to mention that I've heard of it elsewhere as well.

Well... how else can we ever sign a treaty and have it take effect, given that the states can't do it?
How exactly would they do this?

It is GTA3 the shooter, though you did say GT3 (no A), so you're right. What the hell is DOA3 though? Isn't that a fighting game?

I can just see a "Boeing vs Airbus" holy war starting here... at least it's a good change from Linux vs Microsoft and the like.
