The computer doesn't give a damn what the user name is. From a user friendliness point of view it certainly helps things if you can't create user names that don't start with a number. I'm sure that there other reasons but I can see some idiot doing the following.
Person creates an account with the user name "501" that gets assigned the user id 506. Sometime later on the account associated with the user id 501 is deleted. When you do an `ls -l` in a directory that contains files from both users the output is going to show the username 501 and the user id 501 because it won't know what user name to display. So how is the user going to know which files belong to who at a quick glance. Of course you use the `ls -n` command but the idiot who creates an account with a user name that could be confused with a user id won't know that.
Not house keepers but there are lots of people who get house keeping services. They come in once or twice a week and clean up the essentials such as the sinks, toilets, showers, floors, etc. They go around and clean up a couple of houses day. The company does a background check on all of the employees and cleaners are sent in teams of two or three.
Well if people weren't idiots when flying them then we wouldn't need to have to get registered and have laws in place. Governments are almost always reactive. They are writing these laws because people are flying drones into the flightpaths of planes (which even if it doesn't cause harm to the plane it causes the pilots to react), using drones to deliver contraband into prison areas, and generally fly them into areas where they shouldn't.
There are plenty of people that are using them responsibly. However enough of the people aren't that the governments feel that they needs to step in. All it will do is take away the excuse that people didn't know but won't stop them from behaving like idiots, like driving.
Why are you loading all of the tabs at startup? Do you really need all of them? If you want to change the behaviour so that only the visible tab is loaded then go into about:config and search for "browser.sessionstore.restore_hidden_tabs" (without the quotes). Change the value to false. The tabs will still be there but will only load when you select the tab.
Maybe Firefox changed the default behaviour and that is why you see the change in performance.
Why not just force the existing cable and telephone companies lease the last mile. I'm with a third party ISP but they didn't have to dig up my lawn to install any lines. They lease the line from the cable company and have a switch in the nearest data centre to me. My data is only on the cable company's network for the short part and from after that data centre it's on the ISPs network.
This is all guaranteed by the CRTC. The cable company gets paid to maintain the line with a modest amount of profit and people get the choice of ISPs. The cable company would rather have all of the money but at least they get some (as far as they are concerned). The city wins because a whole bunch of companies are digging up the roads. Consumers win because there are better choices than the cable and telephone companies. Of course things could be better but I know that I I could be paying much more for less quality service with the cable company.
What we learned from that is if a white person is shot they get CPR but if a black person is shot then the police just stand around waiting for them to bleed out.
It's not so much about the Doctor becoming a woman because I gave up on the series already. I got tired of the Doctor not being what made the Doctor really great in the first place. That started back with Smith and really started to show when the Doctor and Rory went looking for Amy. When the Cybermen couldn't help them then they just decided to blow up the fleet. I know the Cybermen are evil but the Doctor is always supposed to give them a chance to stop before being stopped. It was that idealistic part where the Doctor would even put risk his own life for his enemy until left with no choice that I admired. Then along came Matt Smiths incarnation and he starts blowing up enemies with much less hesitation.
At least I get to enjoy the previous Doctors via Big Finish and their audio dramas. Some great stories and the Doctors are still true to form.
I just don't see the attraction of changing the heroes to be more politically correct. They still have all of the history behind them. To me a new hero with a new story is much more appealing. We never found out what happened to the Doctor's daughter. There are lots of possibilities to introduce a new character in the universe. Changing the gender or race of a character, to me at least, feels like changing the name of a building when you find out something about that persons' history.
I've stopped watching the show because Moffat killed the ideals of the Doctor anyway but I'm tired of people trying to reimagine heroes as someone new (a woman, black, Muslim, etc). I know Hollywood is pretty much brain dead for new ideas, hence the endless reboots, but the solution for having your hero not being what you want isn't to change them but to create new ones. Or did the people 50 years ago use up all of the imagination?
I don't know about the US but in Canada I will mainly get my stuff delivered via Canada Post or UPS. It all depends on what method is cheapest for that particular parcel. Usually the bulkier and heavier stuff shows up via UPS and the rest is Canada Post.
I never said it was to teach you morality. But there are things like how to manage your finances or cooking that have nothing to do with employment skills or morality that can be taught in schools that would greatly improve the lives of people once they leave the educational system. Or how about being a good consumer and recognizing when marketing is trying to scam you. Businesses won't like it but society will be better off for it.
In an ideal world parents would teach their children these things. Of course in an ideal world the parents would know these things to teach their kids. Or the single parent wouldn't have to work two or three jobs just to be able to put a roof over the family's head and food on their plates so that they would have time to sit down with the child(ren) to teach him/her/them all of these things. But we don't live in an ideal world.
My parents didn't know how to manage money and we were poor. We would have been a lot better off if spent within their means. The only reason I'm good with my finances is because I didn't want to live like I did growing up. School didn't give me the skills I needed. I had to teach myself. The same thing with nutrition and cooking.
I wasn't saying to put religion in school (though an overview of what they are wouldn't hurt just to make people aware of them) or anything similar for that matter.
School should not get you ready for employment. It should get you ready for life. There's a big difference of which the first is only a small part of the second. Besides it should be doing more than teaching you an employable skill. It should be introducing you to a wide variety of skills to allow the students to find their calling.
Of course it's hard to do that when schools in the US are teaching students to pass tests in order to continue to get meagre funding which is spent on the next silver bullet tech idea. Pay more for better teachers that can actually inspire students. Cut the red tape that will allow the teachers the freedom to choose the best course of action for the students. And let the schools get rid of the bad teachers that are just doing their time. Great teachers are what children need to learn. It starts with them. Not iPads, computers, coding hours.
And yet they send bloated multimedia files. Optimizing a commonly used graphic and you will save a lot more in bandwidth. I've seen some places where they could have the files sizes of their images cut in half without impacting quality.
The media love him because they have been getting high ratings as everyone tunes in to see this weeks screw up. It's just one big waiting for the next way his administration is going to surprise you. And they deliver on schedule.
There's the customer charge of $20 a month, the distribution charge from the company based on your consumption, and then the charge for the natural gas consumed which I can get from another supplier. But if I turn off the furnace and hot water heater and make sure that the pilot lights (if they have one) stay off I still pay $20 that month. Just for the privilege of being a customer. For my electricity that's bundled in with the distribution charge.
Say a sinkhole opens up near my home and it takes a just over a month to fix but during that time my electricity and natural gas are shut off. My electricity bill will be $0 but my natural gas bill will still be $20 plus tax.
Don't know about the article but it was right in the summary: "Customers use an app on their smartphone to pay a 19 yuan deposit fee for an umbrella, which costs just 50 jiao for every half hour of use."
I don't know where they get $60k for the current cost which is shown in the summary. I've looked into it for my current house in the suburbs. My yard isn't big enough to lay the loops out below the frost line so I'd have to drill holes and I was only looking at $30k to $40k. Maybe they looking at the case at having someone come out of the city a fair distance.
I'd really like to get rid of natural gas. Not just for the environmental reasons. They charge $20 a month just to be a customer. It doesn't matter if I don't use any gas at all in the month I still pay the charge. Add tax and it's over $250 a year just for the privelidge of getting natural gas from them. It doesn't matter if I switch providers they will still deliver it and I'll still have to pay that charge.
So what if I feel threatened by their body camera? Of never mind, it's probably turned off. Sorry, I mean cutbacks have caused reduced maintenance schedules for the cameras causing them to fail at inopportune moments.
Just because the police were called to a scene it doesn't mean that the reason the people they are interacting with are the cause of the call.
For example there's this case in which a car probably backfired and caused the police to come out. The subjects were just enjoying a nice time when the police came knocking at their door. Not every interaction a police officer has during their shift ends up with someone getting a ticket or getting arrested.
You don't stuff the pigeons, you stuff them into the turkey.

At least you made sure your relatives had a well provisioned Thanksgiving.
Still not a disaster. Nobody died. Company won't go out of business because of this. And even if it did the company makes a game.
Because they behaved better.

What do you think grad students are for?
It's a bit late for the April fools jokes.
