I love the people screaming about not knowing how to use the OS... isnt that the whole point of these things, all you need is your finger and an idea?
"you dont know about alt+tab"
well guys, if I am going to operate the basic functions of my computer via keyboard, why the fuck do I even need a GUI or even a mouse? I am quite happy with sitting there with one thing per screen and using alt+Fx to switch tween applications,it runs a hell of a lot faster and I can still jump between programs without having to hit alt tab 6 times to jump from app 1 to app 6.
yea thanks for the copy paste comment you already posted
I had the opposite experience, course I ran hardware that didnt come with some janky VxD based drivers meant to span any generic configuration from windows 3.11 to ME
yea, and I had little to no troubles out of it on many AMD K62 machines, I was at my gamer peak then and bought quality parts
not saying people didnt have bad luck with it, but most of them I meet then and now mention some shit celeron with a name brand attached back when all the name brands were scraping pennies out of dog shit to stay alive in a flooded market.
Most modern games starting with the 32 bit systems often list system requirements, look at the back of a ps1 game, do you have X blocks free, and a dual shock? no then tough shit. N64 do you have the memory expansion, how much ram does you 64 have?
Wii seems to be the worst, does this game require the wiimote or the classic controller, what if I cant find my numchuck, and fuck all if they bother to list any of that shit on the box. I went out and got a wii game, came home, and instantly had to go back out and get an accessory to meet the system requirement so I could play the game.
horsecrap, I would have windows 7 baby and I am a guy, but I can still find things wrong with it... and your telling us that a beta version of 8 is flawless
so are the odd numbered windows, vista is alright, once you service pack the hell out of it and turn off all the bullshit desktop bling... ME was ok as well, if you were not running it on your mommies virus / adware infected janky compaq, had awesome luck with it on beige box AMD machines... 98? 3.11?
its a tired old joke that has no real reason to exist, "hur hur ME and VISTA hur hur", yea ok sorry your walmart e-machine was a chunk of shit... but it really wasnt that bad.
you can do a (metric) shit-ton with a hammer as long as you know how to wield it. yea you can drive nails, but you can also do so much more as well, IE take a flat sheet of metal and craft it into a work of art.
Maybe thats the problem, a hammer is for driving nails, and we go out and buy a stupid expensive hand press that performs the same act as someone who is skilled with a hammer to do the same thing.
yea those features have been around in the linux world for a long time... and no it does not "Also, it works the way you want it to work." it works like a bad touch interface mixed with single application oriented macintosh os, which is not how I work
"Almost all serious linuxers I know have switched to lxde or xfce in desperation at the bloat and bugs"
Hell I am not even all that serious and I switched to XFCE just cause I got tired of being told that I was doing it wrong, and I was spending more time fighting the UI than doing my work.
I dunno, after nearly a decade of avoiding windows, I found 7 out of the box pretty much the way I wanted to work, stupid things like tab autocomplete on the command line and being able to just hit the windows key and type in part of something I wanted and have it pop right up went a long way
well all these years finding icons on your desktop has never been a problem cause you can flip to it and back with a simple keyboard combo. However this idea of your only really doing one thing at a time like old Mac's is very annoying in 2012 even if your using an old Mac.
In gnome, much like the classic Mac your only shown what application your using while your using it. In mac you had the icon in the upper right. gnome ZOOOOOOOOMS out to frankly tiny windows for you to manually scan and search to see which terminal (for example) you want, while having 2 or 3 open at a time. for my workflow its much simplier to have individual listings on a taskbar, and even better is to have the windows grouped together ala MS style, vs the minority report future dream crap going on with gnome today.
You mean by fixing the standard issue list of complaints and noticing that linux nerds are NOT using their computers like large cellphones, would reduce almost 90% of complaints?
What took you so fucking long Sherlock?
Will I return to gnome even if they do what they say? I dunno... On one hand I do like spiffy new UI's, on the other hand I dont like wasting CPU and GPU power on dumb shit like windows and special effects I never pay attention to.
They really dont, most of their audiences are children who dont give a shit and their customers are the parents who dont know anything else but to buy game X so their little shit quits screaming. That is the majority of game sales in a sentence.
Ignoring your pointless attempt to hit Kentucky with a pussy swing...
"It may come as a surprise to you but developers like to make money."
And holy fuck, what better place to make money than on a store with the narrowest market possible with some dictator that removes your product from market at a whim without justification, were not talking IOS here, its Mac OS, ya know that computer thing apple does which is getting smaller every year?

"But as long as you used only WDM drivers, it was solid."
HOLY CRAP! someone with a clue

I have, and for my work its too limited while fucking up every office 2007-2010 format ever sent to me
yay its free, now all I have to do is reformat every table in this 30 page document of tables cause nothing fits on a printed page anymore yay!
its fine for home use
horsecrap, I would have windows 7 baby and I am a guy, but I can still find things wrong with it ... and your telling us that a beta version of 8 is flawless
yea okay, and unicorns fly out my arse
I had no problems with ME with my K62 boxes, and its actually a tad bit faster than 98
Remember ME? yea I do, course I am not latching onto a phrase to attempt to be funny

2 cents
if you manned up and made a login slashdot has a nice little checkbox that lets you disable ad's, so they wont be loosing anyway
its a profession!? mind ... blown
yea thanks for the pro-tip
streaming game service is what it is, they run the boxes and buy games, then you rent time for a live stream to that box running the game.
Ill give you 3 guesses on how popular it was, and how good of an experience trying to play a video game via VNC is
yea those features have been around in the linux world for a long time ... and no it does not "Also, it works the way you want it to work." it works like a bad touch interface mixed with single application oriented macintosh os, which is not how I work
yea but I have 16, 20 25 year old laptops ... do I really care
still do, though its a bit pricey, smaller screen same cpu, half the ram and over twice the price of my shiny new dell that work bought me .... dunno

they are red when they are freshly posted
They really dont, most of their audiences are children who dont give a shit and their customers are the parents who dont know anything else but to buy game X so their little shit quits screaming. That is the majority of game sales in a sentence.
"EA has been struggling against growing trend of social and mobile gaming."
wrong, they have been struggling with overpriced shitware
