"There are places where full physical security of the device is an absolute requirement, right down to every port being behind a physically-locked plate and literally every cable tied down and locked." This certainly didn't protect Iran's centrifuge lab. Stuxnet was delivered to the lab on a memory stick. Just goes to show where there's a will there is always a way.
You left out a word at the end of your sentence. "Yet" With the world falling apart all around us I take solace in the fact that there are people actually working on pushing theoretical concepts off the whiteboard and into real world applications.
That's why you should always use financial institutions and credit/debit cards that come with free online fraud protection. Then you are not liable for any unauthorized credit card or banking transactions.
There is no difference between the far left or far right when it comes to dealing with science. Both sides have predetermined positions that they will never even think of changing no matter how many facts are presented to debunk their nonsensical view of reality.
A cover story for a single missile that was neutralized may be feasible. However, there is no way in hell a US retaliatory response could be hidden by a cover story.
I am not a big fan of Trump but I was not commenting on any malice directed at Trump. I think the Russian collusion accusations are complete non-sense. All of the investigations are spearheaded by those who lost the election and their supporters. They refuse to acknowledge that Trump won not because of Russian influence but because of their own incompetence married to a political platform that alienated more people than it attracted.
Trump had no choice when making this decision. Had he not signed the bill he would have been accused of being a Russian lackey. In this particular case the government should have never certified the software for government use in the first place.
And the intelligence assets operating out of Embassy's also means any intelligence operative who gets caught doing something overt is covered by diplomatic immunity and are kicked out of the country instead of dealing with the host governments judicial system.
"I wonder what causes some people to be prone and others not?" Combination of dental hygiene, genetics, and environmental factors such as untreated water.
"As in environments that least have no internet access, or at best are air-gapped." The Iranians found out the hard way that even a no internet access, air gapped, highly sensitive environment still wasn't enough to protect them from Stuxnet. Stuxnet was technically impressive but getting the virus smuggled into one of Iran's most secure facilities was even more impressive.
The US was certainly capable of identifying him and have him detained in another country. Evidently he wasn't smart enough to conduct business while remaining anonymous so why would the FBI want him?
"At least China is upfront about their efforts to keep a tight reign on their citizens and make no excuses for their actions." This statement was not intended to be a compliment or supportive in any way towards Chinese government. It is simply the truth. The fact that Apple and quite a few other companies agree to every Chinese demand just so they can have access to the Chinese market.
So no PRC bot here. Although I have traveled all over the world and the Chinese have always been friendly or at least not hostile. On the other I have found Europeans to be simpering ass hats with a massive inferiority complex which they try to compensate for by berating and insulting every US citizen the run across. And this attitude is nothing new. I experienced this attitude in my first encounters 30 years ago.
Apple wouldn't hesitate to accommodate the same request from the Chinese. Apple has already agreed to every request the Chinese government has demanded just to ensure Apple's access to the Chinese market. At least China is upfront about their efforts to keep a tight reign on their citizens and make no excuses for their actions. On the other hand Apple is just another conglomeration of dishonest liars who judge the truth by the amount of market share they hold. Apple's "privacy" stance takes a distant second place when it comes to iPhone sales volumes. To Apple "privacy" is just an integral part of their marketing strategy any where in the world. Of course they are ultimately fighting a position battle in Europe. The EU will eventually get around to forcing Apple to do anything they want or they can look forward toward more investigations in their tax avoidance schemes. But the Europeans have to appear to heed the wishes of it's population where as China never has to pander to anything their citizens want even if those same citizens were allowed to voice any criticisms of the Chinese leadership in the first place.
I would expect a gigantic reward to be issued since to date there has been no government intelligence agency related "feature" ever discovered in any MS software. Are there bugs that create exploits? Sure. Just like every piece of software ever written. Do the government intelligence agencies keep an arsenal of possible 0-day exploits? Sure. This would fall squarely under their job description. A job description that includes words like "covert" and "clandestine". After all the US is not the only country that uses MS software.
The weird thing is the lawyer Trump Jr. met entered the country without a Visa. She needed special dispensation to enter the US because she was legally barred from entering the US due to sanctions. Her dispensation was approved by Loretta Lynch and signed off on by the Obama administration. The lawyer also has a documented history of working on Democratic party campaigns as a registered foreign agent. She was not registered as a foreign agent when she talked with Trump Jr.
It doesn't matter if they own up to their mistakes after the damage is already done. How many months did it take Guardian to fully correct their original incompetence?
If we could only figure out how to make smart people instead of smart devices.

"America fails again at latest quad flight attempt."
I am pretty damn some people would say just this while others would not.
"How is this "Russia", because it happened in "Russia"?" Ah.. Yes? And the only one mentioning Putin happens to be you.
The reverend's statement would have been 100% correct had he not left out a single word. "28-year-old Morrison was not a GOOD bomb maker".

Any one claiming to have AI should be sued for false and deceptive advertising.
"so I don't know for sure."
Well that certainly didn't stop you from blaming the farming industry now did it?
The CIA and the NSA wish they had the capabilities and resources needed to do even half the things they are routinely accused of doing.

As soon as someone actually creates a true AI we can test your theories. Everyone claiming they have working AI's should be sued for fraud.

Wow! You best get on the horn to NASA and share your stunning insight because I'm sure nobody involved in the project realizes the danger.
