    So instead of hyphenating the parents, we put in both the parent's first names AND the last name as well? (remember the original discussion was about the females 'losing' their name, something not brought up in the Arab Family Naming Convention)
    So:
    "Mr. John son Mary and Steve who are the son and daughter of Bob and Betty and Jack and Wendy respectively"

    How do you carry on your family name with a female heir?

    By not supporting archaic social customs that suggest males are superior to females and are the only way to extend your family legacy.

    So then the family with the Male heir loses out?

    Hyphenate? Sure that's sustainable, generations later:
    "Mr. I-have-a-long-hypenated-name-because-how-dare-one-gender-take-another's-name"

    Well it might not at your school. But kids do go missing. The article says that not a single day goes by in the district without a parent enquiring where their AWOL kid is. It might be as innocent as going to a friends house without thinking to phone home. But it might not.

    And iris scanning prevents this from happening because...?

    I hate to give Microsoft credit for anything, but at least they had enough insight to keep the option to switch back to the previous version of the desktop available for many many releases afterwards.

    Well to your own admission, Progman.exe won't work in anything past XP.
    Also, go ahead and get the flyout-style Start Menu from 95/98/XP in Vista/7, I'll wait.

    I don't even test new web designs in Firefox; only IE, Safari and Chrome.

    You might consider starting, since FF's 20% market share is approximately equal to the combined share of Safari and Chrome.

    I'd like to ask this question of you, and everyone else that feels the same:
    How is the start screen worse than the start menu other than "it's different"?

    Don't give me some all change is good/bad response, that's not what I'm asking. Also I don't use Windows myself so I don't really have an opinion regarding Windows 7's UI to Windows 8's

    Try doing that with a NintendoDS 4D ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha (or whatever they are called now)

    I know right? They added one character to the name of the handheld and now it's soo hard to get right. Could you imagine if phones did that with later versions of their devices???

    Good thing all your files and the software itself is local then!

    The 'cloud' name is because you have the option to have files remotely and also (mostly) a marketing buzzword.

    That model only works because the company paying for the FOSS could use the features they are paying to be coded.

    The music/movie labels don't want the song/film for themselves, they want the money it'll generate from sales.

    One set of people who would be hurt by this hypothetical perfect DRM are the poor who would never be able to afford to pay for it. One can argue back and forth about the justice of this but the fact remains that only the wealthy would be able to afford certain digital content.

    So people are either "poor" or "wealthy" and nothing in between?

    If it were libre, then that means you could do anything you want with it, including make it support ads. So in this case, it'd be worse. You prevent ads via the developers working with the API, the user doesn't have do anything. I also don't see what DRM has to do with anything here.

    Silverlight is going to be discontinued and more and more devices are released that don't support it. I'd call that "something wrong with it".

    Worst consumer company. Of the four you listed, only one, Bank of America, was even in the brackets. It did come in second to EA. I didn't vote and I'm not a consumer of either EA or Bank of America, but what has Bank of America done in the past year? I'm not saying they are innocent, I just honestly don't know since I'm not a customer.

    GPs point isn't that people are ignorant of the reasons to dislike EA, it's that they come out and say they dislike them by voting in the "Worst Company in America", but don't act as if they dislike them by not buying their games.

    It is sickening in the extreme to think that it's possible to deny other people access to information, simply because you thought of it first.

    The default is to deny other people access to information because you thought of it first.

    The patent system exists to help get the information into the public domain quickly, instead of having it kept as a trade secret for decades.

    So when you're trolling on the patent system, try to understand its primary function first.

    The problem is patent holders have forgotten the monopoly is supposed to be temporary, and then it's publicly available
