"Wi-Fi at Tube stations will help us improve the journeys of the millions of people that use the Underground everyday at no cost to fare or tax payers".
Calm down Charlie Brown. It was a bit of a joke. I'm not suggesting you're a malicious thief. My point was that most people at some juncture in their lives will have been in possession of pirated software whether they realised it or not. That doesn't make them habitual pirates. In the same way that I may jay-walk sometimes, or go over the speed limit or break the law in other minor ways doesn't make me a criminal.
Ah yes! I totall forgot about My Name Is Earl as an example. I love that show and 7 really screwed it - I thought I must have woken from a coma or something. I gave up and bought the entire series on DVD.
So you think that reading a book is a more convenient alternative to watch a 1 hour tv episode? I'm not sure what you think convenient means. Let me guess, you believe that books make you a more sophisticated and intelligent person, whereas TV dulls the mind? As it happens I read a lot of books, but I like TV too.
Your powers of reasoning are very weak. So I avoid forums for a week, and then watch the show unspoiled. Then what? I avoid forums for another week so I can see the next episode unspoiled. Then what? I avoid forums and... Do you see a pattern forming here? I must avoid forums for as long as I want to watch unspoiled tv.
You can get books 1-4 as a set for $20 right now ($10 second hand on ebay).
Yes, and I can buy a set of dominoes for 50c from a garage sale and throw them at cats if want as well. Doesn't mean I want to.
In Australia, our TV networks show an incredible amount of greed and disdain in regard to popular TV series from the US. They constantly shift the time and day on which the show airs. They frequently leave gaps of several weeks between episodes (see Big Bang Theory) in order not to compete with other networks which may be launching a new show expected to dominate in the ratings. The more popular the show the more advertisements they pack in - sometimes up to 6 ad breaks in a single 21 minute show! The ad breaks are now so aggressive that they sometimes cut off punch lines (see the Simpsons). And sometimes they even play the damn episodes out of order (Firefly and American Gothic)! And they wonder why we go and download them where we can actually enjoy the show. F you Australian TV networks. You have no-one to blame but yourselves.
Drawing that sort of parallel actually harms the case for BitTorrent. It is so ridiculously extreme that no-one could take it seriously and it damages credibility. How often does a bank robber drive along a freeway? How often are illegal files downloaded on torrents? Is there really a valid comparrison here? It just gives the other side more ammunition.
So I'm sorry because I know what's ahead of you. And you know, it's not the waiting that is annoying. It is the fact that I bought a DVD with *my* money thereby (at least I believed) owning it, and yet I am being forced to watch something I would prefer to skip. Again and again and again. If you are one of the people here who thinks it won't be annoying, then speak to me in a year's time when you've seen the same damn message 500 times.
To the idiots who decided to put these messages up in the first place: Nothing makes me want to pirate more than these messages. I am not pro-pirate, but you are making your product *worse* than I can get for free. Why make people who are doing the right thing already sit through a bunch of your preachy bullshit?
Some people do not ascribe a monetary value to every action they make. For instance, the other day I gave money to a charity. My ROI is 0%, but I still enjoyed doing it.
One of the things that makes this sort of funding different is that a vast majority of pledgers are contributing very modest sums of money. Can you really get pissed off if you lose $50 in a venture? For a lot of people this sort of funding gives them the chance to participate in something they would otherwise have never got an opportunity to be involved in. I think that what we will see is a refinement of the system and people maybe being a little more selective and those who are seeking funding becoming more professional. I do believe that in some form or another it is here to stay.
No one's forcing anyone to do it. Some people love spending their time trying to punch holes in security. This way they can do it legally and get rewarded for it. Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me.
They've been ordered to block it by the courts.
...and nothing else. She will either adapt or leave you.
"The gap has been slowly shrinking over the past few quarters, but it's still bigger than it was a year ago"
How does a gap shrink and get bigger at the same time?
"Wi-Fi at Tube stations will help us improve the journeys of the millions of people that use the Underground everyday at no cost to fare or tax payers".
So it was paid for by fairies?
I didn't know Thursdays were particularly bad for piracy
Does that make us all Auties?
^^ This ^^^
That bombs and guns are a product of science? Or is that part of their message - to destroy science with science? Fucking assholes.

So explain to me the "logic" of how avoiding forums for *one* week is an effective solution to the problem.

Why post this anon? You make some excellent points.

...why we bother having the Olympics. We should all just have a big war instead. The winner gets a gold medal.
Mine sweeper is going to look great on this thing!

^This. Don't worry Neal, your works are, at best, forgettable distractions.
I am going to report this comment to the police. How dare you discuss the olympics without permission!
