    I'm willing to concede that there's a lot of doubt as to whether that's what happened. But the prosecution had to *prove* that didn't happen, and they didn't. Not even close, apparently.

    Y'know, the single best way to punch through is to *build a brand*. Once I know I like a writer, I'll likely look for her stuff again. You, on the other hand, are making sure that those who like book A by her will never see book B.

    Ahhhhh...no. COBOL has a GOTO. Legacy COBOL has a tendency to use the GOTO a lot. In legacy COBOL, all the variables are global (although you did at least have to declare them all). These things do not make for easily maintained code.

    Yes, but some things should be automatic to a competent designer. The statement "The component must be installed in this orientation" should elicit the response "then the component should be designed to be impossible to install in any other orientation" by reflex.

    Frankly, it probably wasn't. Odds are, he smoked like a chimney--lots of Japanese still do, you know. Esophageal cancer is also more likely with alcohol consumption--and drinking parties are another Japanese tradition--in those with alcohol flush reaction, which is a common genetic disposition in Japanese people.

    Mind you, I don't say that drones avoid civilian casualties 100%, just that they can do better than manned aircraft.

    The battles the US military is engaged in involve hearts and minds, and drones are very bad from that perspective.

    Yes, but manned aircraft generally aren't any better. In some ways, they're worse, because the drones make sure of their target and avoid civilian casualties in ways that would be too risky for manned aircraft.

    No, EFF's own page is perfectly correct. Steve Jackson Games was (and is) a games book publisher. They are not, and have never been, a *video* games book publisher. Pen and paper, baby!

    Let me get this straight. The problem under discussion is the government recording the trail of every email and phone call, and you think the answer is to give them more money? For what, so that they can do bigger and better tracking?

    Except that Lincoln could have ended the war at any time by just letting the South go their own way.

    Establishing the precedent that any state that wanted to leave the Union could just walk away. As any state with a disagreement could threaten to secede, the eventual complete dissolution of the Union would become inevitable.

    US fighters to intercept. Russia, Cuba and Venezuela are outside the US's reach, but the airspace between them isn't.

    Not that simple. They have to play the shell game, but with Russia's cooperation, they can, and they may in fact be doing so.

    Don't bet on it. If Russia decides it seriously wants to help, then they'll never even know he's left until he's in Venezuela. As of *right now*, nobody has seen Snowden since he got to Moscow. In fact, nobody has seen him in Moscow at all. Russia claims he's holed up in Sheremetyevo Airport, but nobody has seen him there. Nobody saw him get off the flight from Hong Kong. Is he still in Moscow? Was he ever in Moscow at all? I wouldn't take bets.
