They also ran Unit 731, conducted horrible experiments and vivisections on civilians and prisoners of war, butchered their own schoolchildren out of fears the invading enemy would be as brutal as they are, cannibalized Australians and live in a culture of institutionalized racism to this very day.
You forgot the rape of "comfort women" in Korea. So many atrocities, so little time...
when it became norm to mobilize all civilian in war making effect and therefore "justify" the opposite side to crush totally the infrastructure of the enemy.
Let's see here...over 2000 years ago, when the Romans not only demolished Carthage to the ground, killed or sold into slavery its entire population, but also salted the very ground on which it had stood for good measure? Actually, there's probably earlier examples; that's just the one that came immediately to my mind.
Beginning of the war, end of the war. Same war. The Chinese were still fighting the Japanese as our allies as part of the same, ongoing war, right up until the bomb forced the Japanese surrender.
The real question with cloud computing is whether the companies are going to operate in a fashion that brings to mind steady, sober, dependable service like a local utility, [or] like a giant rapacious corporation uncaring of human concerns
Man, what fantasyland are your utilities located in? I wanna move there! In my experience, utilities *are* "giant rapacious corporation uncaring of human concerns".
Dell needs a good quarter, folks. Those nasty guys on Wall Street will be all over them if they don't squeeze out a good quarter to make Dell look good against Acer.
I've got of few of those neat Bicentennial quarters they made thirty years back. Would one of those do?
No, but the laws of statistics do. The drunk is *much* more likely to be involved in a fatal accident caused by drunk driving than the sober driver is.
EA did not develop or deploy DAoC. They only acquired Mythic. Mythic hasn't deployed any expansions for DAoC since EA acquired them. Warhammer Online has been...less than successful.
It's worse than that. EA actually has a long history with MMOs. You may not realize it, because none of except the original Ultima Online survived. Ultima Online 2 (and UO X). The Sims Online. BattleTech 3025. Earth & Beyond. Motor City Online. And others.
But I would also like to point out that people on both sides of the political fence are unhappy.
The state of their personal satisfaction with life is frickin' irrelevant. What matters is the HE IS STILL MINISTER OF CULTURE. Until he resigns or is fired, Sarkozy and his party are condoning him.
Iran has crude oil. What they *don't* have is gasoline...fuel oil...asphalt...and so on. Iran has very little in the way of refining capability (it didn't help that a large chunk of their refineries got blown up in the Iraq-Iran war). In fact, one of the sanctions that's been discussed for Iran is cutting off their gasoline supply.
35 USC 102(b) refers to inventions in use or offered for sale in the US only.
Yes, but almost certainly irrelevant. 35 USC 102(b) also covers if the invention was "described in a printed publication in this or a foreign country". So unless no repair manuals for the Prius were released, the Japanese introduction date works.

The dead of Nanking would like to courteously disagree with that assertion.

So now you can Quake while you Quake!
Um, could you be a little more vague, sir?
Oooh, that's a good one. Pull the other one, it's got bells on.
Yep, the US Post Office is a profit center and not supported by our taxes. Just like Fannie Mae.

A herbivore. Vegetarian implies a conscious decision not to eat meat.
Depends. Do you live in Sweden? Do you have Swedish relatives? Are there any Swedish meatballs in your refrigerator?
Then why did they stop doing it?
Actually, I'll tell *you* why they stopped doing it: because Linus realized he was doing by hand a job that could be done much better by machine.
Not if the configuration check you wrote checks for the trailing "." anyways. And if it doesn't, you need to rewrite it.
Or to put it another way, it's enough to power your time machine *four times*!

...that computing cloud I've been hearing so much about?

Lessee...domain is h-online.com, refers you to patch files hosted at heise.de--yep, that's direct from Microsoft, all right!
Naw, the MegaDrive was a dog; even when they called it the "Genesis". I'd rather have an SNES.
The SuperDrive is pretty cool, though. Makes a nice add-on to your Mac.
And the next time you show up wearing green gear, you're fired!
You only adopted it!
