They aren't angels. However they are much more capable than any other country to handle this situation. If this happened in the US it would be a much worse problem.
Lets take the Police Officer case: Police (patrol) officers make ~54k a year. I don't know any Security Guards that are making that. And those Security Guards don't get retirement after 20 YEARS and don't have a pension either!
The high cost of public officials + pension + the early retirement age is killing us. What other sector can you retire at age 40 with pension? Give us a break!
1) Manned space exploration is much more expensive than unmanned
2) You can't do anything for a billion dollars at NASA/JPL
3) They are already working on alternative propulsion systems and a couple are being used today in real spacecrafts (ion drive/solar sail)
Unfortunately our country (and the West in general) is even more broke than usual so we should hope that Asia can manage something, otherwise we are going to be stuck here forever.
There ARE no alternatives. That is why when I hear people say the "MPAA/RIAA/government/etc cannot shut us down we will just do it this other way" I cringe. They can block the Internet and communication. How effective they are at it depends on how much effort they want to put into it. Don't think for a minute it can't happen where you live if they get desperate enough.

This is a very insightful post. You guys need to understand that Beck/Limbaugh/Maddows/whomever are all alike. They are exploiting your fear of people you see as "opposite" to you in order to make millions of dollars off of their show, books, speaking fees, etc.
None of these commentators believe what they are saying no matter what "side" they are on. The truth is that none of them are on "your side". They are interested in their ego and the big bucks. I find it amazing that people spend so much time raging against them. Ignore them and they will go away.

Those are the same rules as in the US. When the plane lands you can make calls but not use other electronics. The reasoning is that people need to be aware of instructions and shouldn't be watching/listening on headphones during taxiing.

red-light cams are not the same as traffic cams. Red light cameras are not generally available to the public.
