Don't these drones transmit in the clear? I thought there was a big stink in Afghanistan and Pakistan where people could "tune in" to the video feed using simple portable electronics.

If thats the case cant some Japanese technophile just capture and broadcast the signal over the web?

Or did USAF fix that hole and now encrypts everything?

  6. Re:Most boring planet? on MESSENGER Enters Orbit Around Mercury · · Score: 1

If you think of the solar system as an X - Y plane, with Earth and Mercury both on the same Y plane, then you need only one satellite high on the X plane. By being up high like that, both planets can be on opposite sides of the sun, yet still in line-of-sight of the satellite. And it doesnt even have to be anything fancy, just a giant mirror with positioning and rotating capabilities, so it just bounces the beam from Mercury to Earth orbit.

  7. Re:Most boring planet? on MESSENGER Enters Orbit Around Mercury · · Score: 2
Yeah, but when we cover the whole thing in solar panels and beam the power back to Earth, we will have an amazing source of clean and free energy.

Not to mention all the goodies that will have accumulated on and under the surface. So close to the sun it should be covered in layers of Helium-3 and other exotics.

Think globally. If China gets its oil from the Middle East, and they suddenly go dry, China still needs oil. So they go to Canada/Mexico and offer them more $$$/barrel than we are. So then they sell to China, or raise their prices for what we pay. So even if we only get a small % directly from the arabs, we are still involved in the supply chain and pay the toll for any disruptions.

I love the fact we have a giant pit out west with over 10000 tons of processed Thorium ore. Stuff that has been mined, concentrated, and then just dumped in a pit.

With minimal processing we'd have thousands of tons of thorium pure enough to use in reactors.

Along with the banks fiasco, oil went "cheap" again.

Now the Saudis production is slowing down the fields are going dry.
