    Just curious,

    If you have compatible wlan hardware like Atheros, would it be possible to configure a mesh network on them? Or do you need special 11s compatible hardware?

    I know the OLPC has specialized hardware for this.

    You can use the decoy OS without fear of destroying data in the hidden os.

    F*CK up hidden volumes still is possible, if done on purpose. For that you need a backup anyway looking at the rate laptops are "lost" on airports.

    By the way, a analogy would be that the border police (!) will shoot though the double bottom of your suitcase because you might have something hidden in it.

    The decoy OS is not a outer, non hidden volume, it is a seperate partition. You must run the decoy OS regulary so it becomes obvouus it is a used OS. YOu can do safely

    You are right. However the summery just repeats what the authors of thebrightnet say. They assume that because they are transfering bytes instead of actual copyrighted dataa they are in the clear.

    They just moved the copyright act of publishing the file to publishing the hash. If that hash/key/url is the only way to retrieve that file then you can be sure that is a the people that is procecuted for the publication.

    torrent sites now can hide (unsuccesful) behind the fact that they are just indexing data pulished by others just like google.

    There is far simpler way to get the same result: password protect (rar,zip) the file you are publishing and give a strange name. Same result without needing a new p2p protocol.

    The real answer was: they can run "legacy" applications as a virtual machine or virtual application. And then recode the stuff that is left over. This will more or less happen as virtalisation is available(user friendly available) for everyone.

    The recode however takes a lots of guts. Not sure if a dinosaur can turn quick enough.

    There were workarounds for self modifying code (VirtualProtect) and if you were a developer you were aware of this. The real trouble comes when you want to run this code on a out of order cpu (P5). If it runs you loose a lot of performance with self modifying code.

    and of course it gave me the opportunity to refer to it as a dynamic synth compiler :) The bitches were all over me, dawg! I get the technical part, but the part about "bitches all over me" makes it unbelievable.

    You can slow down traffic, even in the p2p application. But it will negatively affect transfer speed of p2p applications. Specially if you communication with other high latency clients.

    And it is not easy to do under windows because properties like frame window size is not accessible from windows in a generic way.

    The eeepc & via pc are not a real replacement for the full desktop pc but more for the ultra small notebook pcs that cost you at least double that price before.

    However this via pc lie the msi wind lacks the SSD disk, which makes it much less suitable for people who handle their laptop with less care (schools/kids/light bags)

    I was the one with physical access to my machine and its TPM.

    Physical access won't do you any good unless you crack open a chip package. The whole point of TPM is that encryption stuff does not leave the TPM chip.

    (Yup, the "stuff" part is a little vague)

    TPM allows Them to authenticate that the game runs only on one pc. That is, if you trust to run their software on your pc. The whole point is, who owns the TPM module, owns a lot. Who you are going to trust.

    It is like the trusted path for blueray content in vista, but then for software. You cannot run software unless it is in a signed environment.

    If in 10 years the OS consists of virtual machines, one of those machines will be a TPM box that is controlled by Big media/game makers, that will only allow their games in a secure(by their viewpoint) environment.

    That is, if you let them have it.

    If you see how much is invested (and lost) on DRM in pc computer games this might be sooner than you think.

    Containment is an issue? Unless you agree with H.G. wells that migration to moon leads to blowing up the moon, radioactive accidents are not a real problem. If a reactor blows up, there is only the problem of the bang. The radioactivity is not spread through the atmosphere or in the water to habitable places.

    It is very visible, but also not illegal. They serve data from a server they own, from a ip adress they bought (got assigned?).

    If they want to point to spammy sites, or collect dns typing mistakes then they are legal.

    If they did not answer the name requests then the client would go on retriying and retrying, being a more effective DOS on thier network. So the only correct action was to put a DNS server on the announced DNS adresses.

    A cluster of computers doing a job is less efficient that a single server doing the same job. Adding to that having a cluster creates more points of failure, and more overhead communicating between those statements.

    If you have the option to run the DB & the application on the same server, try to do so.

    Freenet is really really bad, I tried to retreive a ksk version of the gpl v2 and it returned me a version of bsd. There are bad people out there.

    Lots of people crying for more anonimity on filesharing networks makes clear that free speech is a VERY long way from free internet. Contract your repesentative to get more free speech.

    It is the efforts of the RIAA that drive people in the hand of anonymous networks.

    Asus is feeling the wind coming from the next generation of atom laptops that will have very simular specs to the EEEpc, and will be about the same price. Any deal with MS to lower the price of MS will be very welcome to Asus. 50% of people want XP on that kind of box.

    However they made the mistake of giving the linux and MS boxes different specs. Why is a mystery to
    me.

    Did you note there is also a generation of 200euro laptops with linux on them, but with a non-intel compaible cpu?
