    The real reason is that it takes time to implement, so developers choose to "let the users reboot after installation" because the project is already overdue, and installation is only made as an after thought.

    The reason for application is most of the time not technical, but more the effort that it takes.

    For to replace parts of the OS in runtime(remember, the browser is th OS according to MS) the new functions are required.

    Vista will be just as bumpy a ride as XP was.

    I agree. Even now most application can be installed without a restart. However since application are written windows corss platform, that means they should also install on win98/winme, the installer prompts for a restart at the end.

    This is just because developers do not know how to replace dll's in flight, and installers are made as an after thought. Maybe some MS OS updates do not require a windows start (and the internet explorer is part of the OS), many thirth party application will still require this. FOr technical reason, or because the installer says so, or for your "holy reboot helpdesk procedure".

    Limewire is java so it is by design cross plaform? YOur question does not make sense. Maybe an installer is lacking on the linux platform. I do not know.

    You can always use eMule (win32) / amule (linux/max/e.a.) Shareaza (win32) or limewire (win/max/javathingy) to perform those searches for you.

    The music labels got to realize if they push the p2p networks too hard the p2p clients will go underground into anonymous networks

    Well if you did follow the story, and came any futher than "sony=rookit=evil"then you would notice that most antivirus creators did conclude the same. THe only thing they do remove is the rootkit(=hide the drivers), not the DRM software. So President of RIAA does follow a common opinion.

    You buy a cd from sony (or an artist...), not from some spyware compagny. And if f4internet blaimes 1 roque employee, will you accept that as a defense?

    No this is far beyond a "vote with your wallet" story. sony BMG broke some laws they though were important for their business model, and now they should bleed for it.

    This moderated funny, but actually the only reason 64 bit's make sense is for applciation with big memory requirements. Since 32 bits application are fine handing 2 GB, and can do 3.5 Gb with a little bit of tuning, this might not be enough for some applicaitons. ("bloatware")

    In that case you need to find out IF mpglib is acutaly used in the sony distibution, and if it is, what version. maybe some old lame version is used.

    Changing the licence of a gpl project is only possible if you track down all the contributors and ask for their approval. VERY HARD. and even then hte old software is still available under the GPL. so even if it was possible and effective and acceptable, it is practically impossible.

    And don't forget emule was reversed engineered from edonkey to start with.

    So it is not only LPGL, but also the more strict GPL. This is of coarse all meaningless if nobody from the mpg123 project steps out and tells sony to go with the license.

    By saving 20% on the conversion you also save 20% on the cooling. But also the power can now run in a different room where the temperature condition might be less demanding, so even more cooling might be saved.

    That part does not mention the anti-spyware stuff. I bet the eula it is talking about is only displayed when you run the exe.

    And i sure am NOT going to run that software on my pc.

    anything could be n that eula. They even require a full page to say this install.exe is "(C) retrocode limited 2005"

    Well since copyright is alos used to prevent the unauthorized copying of banknotes, copyright is actually quite powerful. But copyright will not prevent you from studyding bank notes, it might prevent you from creating machines that can help you to duplicate bank-notes (try scanning in a bank note into photoshop and you get the point.)

    Yes, that is what the sony reaction look like. They just behave as this is a non-issue.

    But, by not adding an uninstaller, not putting it it in the EULA what it is doing and playing the blaim game to apple*, their software is not better than the worst spyware. They think they can install anything on a users PC, but this might be plain illegal.

    If you do not care about spyware and viri, please let it pass, but if you care for your privacy and/or your pc you should not "vote with your wallet", but name it what it really is.

    *(their faq keep babbling you can not transfer it ot itunes because apple did something to make their api incompatible, instead of watching their DRM solution)
