    The logic behind his requirement is flawed:
    Any non-acredited software can affect the build, Even anti-virus software that is not installed on that build. i.e. many antivirus software write checksums somewhere on the HD. I people can run such software you have a problem anyway in such an environment.

    You can install most antivirus software in a non-interfering mode, only scan wheren you press the scan button. So why not put in on HD or a (read only) central server?

    Opening up C$ & D$ would be a bad idea, but is is possible.

    The only files you won't be able to access are those that are exclusive locked by the OS and they can't be infected by any virus anyway.

    Since they can be updated by update software, virus software can update those files as well.

    In the end i think he is a (l)user that cannot install software, but wants to virus check his PC anyway. (read between the lines!)

    Basically, the attack works by trying to express the entire algorithm as multivariate quadratic polynomials, and then using an innovative technique to treat the terms of those polynomials as individual variables. This gives you a system of linear equations in a quadratically large number of variables, which you have to solve. There are a bunch of minimization techniques, and several other clever tricks you can use to make the solution easier. (This is a gross oversimplification of the paper; read it for more detail.)

    You said "and Schneier at least simplifies it ". AES is save to me! no way i am going to be able to break this in my lifetime. I might need read that sentence in a week or so, le alone the original paper.

    Also note:It seems that the XSL might break AES 256 bits, but it is not certain. There is little chance however that it will break the most used AES 128 bits.. Funny, i would have gone with bigger keys, but they seem to get less secure.

    The solution is simple: make it render only ok in ineternet explorer(use user agent detection scripts for this). Then report to Management that 99.9% of the user use internet explorer, so there
    is no need to update the layout.

    even some
    websites recomment coding for the main browsers.

    Unless the wireless browsers break trough, this will stay this way.

    newcomers browsers will fake the User-agent field because they will not be allowed (full)acces any other way.

    100 GB uncompressed.(tape = 139 euro) ADR tapes 2 are less expensive at ~EURO 540 but only 30 GB uncompressed at 75 dollar per tape.

    They are targeting servers with this drives

    --640 Kb is enough for everyone.

    NOW he has released his source.

    He is taking the average of amplituth of a x-y value he calculated (white = high(255), black is low value(0)). This is not the perfect method of decoding it, But it add's anonther factor 256. It is not black and width images,

    this and the 60 Db factor makes it more feasable.

    Opera 5 is that its rendering is spotty
    -It is fine for most sites that i browse. And for the sites that don't display correct (blue on back , think it is because of ccs) i switch to "user mode".
    and that it crashes in a stiff breeze.
    -Then stay out of this breeze:
    -Don't browse flash sites.
    -If you system resource are out then you are waiting for a crash

    I do have to use it, and it works nice for a sub standard sub-os machine. Right now i have 21 mdi windows open in opera. No way explorer can carry that in this 64 MB machine.

    I do use a 64 MB and windows 95 PC but with a fast internet connection. I did try an upgrade to opera 6 and i went back to opera 5. Version 6 was too memory hungry for me.

    The biggest problem with opera(5.12) is that it sometimes uses too much "system" resources. an example for this is when i get moderator access at /. .

    But i am worried that there are no more security updates for opera 5.x

    Maybe i am missing something. (I am from europe) You don't get a number of vacation days? 22-25 days off (payed) is normal. And my wife is just finishing her 6+10 weeks "childbith" off time. All payed ofcourse.

    Getting hired to do that job takes more than a few months at this time.

    Are they doing background tracking in that time, or are the people hiring burocrats? Or do you spend time training.

    No, i haven't flying the last 10 month's. Specially not wearing a pilot's uniform.

    But your description makes it even esier to bring a weapon on board. Dress like " national guardsman standing there with handguns and high-powered rifles".

    Besides that, armed security(army/police) on airports is nothing new. At least not in europe.

    -dress in a fancy pilot's costume. (pick up chicks with it as well)

    Obscurity.Obscurity. That is one of the problems of google. If i search for my name it should come up with my homepage. The outcome varies each week.

    -It disappeared.
    -it ranks no 1.
    -it ranks no 7.

    Why? It's very fuzzy. Should i create a backup homepage? That is is not always no 1 is understandable since someone else with my name exists (propably dead, causing more stir with that than a alive me!)

    What do i want? I want people who can not remember my email to be able to find my homepage&email . (free provider yabaa yabaa)

    first a barcode is 12 digits

    1: you mean a ucc(-?12?) barcode.

    second europe/asia uses 13digit upc's

    They are called ean-13 barcodes. NOT UPC's.
    And note that the french use 14 digit article indentification barcodes as well.

    So go for 14 digits in your article id db.

    The 12 digit ucc codes can be mapped on the ean-13 codes. I don't know exactly how, but it is defined in the ean standard. From experierence i know it gets into problems with short 6 digit ucc codes.
