  1. Re:And this is just... on EC Suspends Microsoft Sanctions Due to Appeal · · Score: 2

I totally agree. What we are seeing in the EU is that the EU parliament, ministers etc. are seperating themselves from the governments of the countries they're made up of. Hopefully EU elections will become more significant in the next years to counteract the trend. However, there are some monkey ministers who fear that without corporatist legislation the EU will fall short of its grandiose economic goals, all the while millions of euros are flushed down the toilet to pay for ministers' hotels, food (ministers in Brussels get about 200$ daily for CATERING needs... can u imagine? this is excluding their normal payroll) and billions are thrown out of the window to support a desperate agricultural industry.

That's exactly why some companies have "service standards" or similar rules (for example the NHS in the UK does, although I'm not sure whether they abide by it) in which they guarantee to contact you in the process of a certain number of days, minutes or rings depending on the medium. Other companies could do the same, and if they don't abide, you'd get something for free.

The interface has been GREATLY improved (especially the dialogues are now much more conservatively designed and are stackable into one window pane (for example: channels, tool options and brush types, font types etc.. all in one window in tabbed menus or one above the other))

See, for example, the screenshot I provide. Please, if you have the possibility, mirror it!

Being from Europe I have to comment that the average European is also not interested in paying twice the price 'just' for saving our natural resources. Quite a shame, but we live in a consuming world where people do not even bother to buy good food if they can get it half as good for half the price or less.

  7. Re:"good" p2p? on Searching for Pro-Napster Experts and Speakers? · · Score: 3
I don't really agree to this. Napster is a search engine-like service (with some advertisements for featured music)... You do have to know the band, or the name of the song to find what you are looking for, ok, you can search genre wise, but still...

MP3.COM really gives a better opportunity for new musicians and bands to present themselves, each band has its own page, with downloadable and streamable content, and if some band gets more and more known, their songs rank higher, and thus, sometimes even give them quite a bit of revenue, which with Napster isn't the case. Just look at the facts, Napster makes it very hard (I think even somewhat expensive) to use their network as a career ladder.

  8. Mozilla rocks. on Update to the Mozilla Roadmap · · Score: 1

I've been using Mozilla as my main browser for quite some time now, I've tried most if not all milestones, and am really happy with 0.8, it simply rocks. On my machine it's reasonably stable (1 crash per 10 hours of use or so) and quite fast (VERY fast machine over here).

What I'd like to see is some commercial support @ plugin developers. Nice to see that Flash works, and some others too, but Mozilla misses many plugins (RealPlayer plugin doesn't work [Linux version], we need QuickTime for Linux anyway). But all in all, it's the best browser I've ever used.
One more complaint, PUT SOME MORE FEATURES INTO THAT DARN NEWS CLIENT! [especially the newsgroup selector, I mean, how in hell can I remember all newsgroups I read, there are 80.000 on my newsserver!)

On the german TV station "Pro Sieben" there is a TV show called Galileo, it's aboout new inventions, science and all new stuff that will rock your world. Now, it's not all that technical, but pretty informative and interesting. About a month ago those paper phones were presented, together with an interview of her, they even showed that paper Laptop, although it didn't work yet. But the phone worked and was presented, it looked just as fake as the pics (because it IS just paper, it can't look "not cut&pasted"). But I don't think they would've brought it into the program if it were fake.

You can't compare these two cases! I mean, a fan wants to check out the latest album, but at home all at his quiet place, not at a over-filled cd-shop, he logs in into napster and downloads one or two tracks only to realise that the band he likes restricts him from listening to their music. Napster is not about piracy in my opionion, it's only about checking out things, I always buy the CD's I get in MP3 format online. I want the lyrics, the cover etc.. that is, if I like the songs.

  16. Well, there's an easy explanation! on Linux Games Not Selling · · Score: 1

Why should I as a european invest 30$ of postage&packaging only to get Quake III when I can get it for 40$ at the store? (Although for Windows). Sure, I would love not to have to boot Winblows, but the saved costs leverage this *strain* of booting into Windows. Linux games don't sell well beacause there not availiable in stores (at least not here in Europe, and I believe they aren't very spread in the US also). Also the games that have been released have been availiable for a long time on Windows, and as most Linux users playing games have a Dual Boot setup, most won't buy a game twice (even if it's cool to see at what speed Quake III runs on XF 4.0.1 with NVidia's drivers [0.9-4] these days).
For the Linux game industry to be a challenge, it has to release timely with Windows, and be availiable anywhere, in stores, and online stores (as geeks are known to hate quitting their chair :)
