If I am to pay by pageview, I'd like to know how many I have consumed recently. I'm sure I'm one of the frequent 3% (fuck, I read trolltalk and journals regularly!) but I would like to understand what this really means. Would I pay $5 for.. a month? two weeks? more? less?
Congress requires you to wait 2 years between each successful denial of civil rights to allow everyone a fair chance at denying rights.
It's been 4 months since you passed 'USA PATRIOT Act'!
If this error seems to be incorrect, please provide the following in your report to the Majority Leader:

Whether or not you are collecting a sufficient amount of soft money from the lobbyists for this particular law
How many civil rights you successfully denied during the day
Ethernet cards are made by 100s if not 1000s of vendors. Okay, they're usually built into the PC now - but you can always buy a third party one. Do you really think people will rush to buy the crippled card, when real ones cost less ($10)? I don't think so.
The reason Hollywood is so caught up in this is that they know that any technical solution they devise will fail without the law backing it up. But the industry won't stand for such a law, as we see with this letter.
Don't like paying
child support? Don't make babies.
Maybe he got dumped by his wife. Maybe she cheated on him and then got a nice settlement. Maybe it's a she, and these conditions are reversed. Or maybe they never got married. You can't know what the truth is simply from the fact that the poster pays child support - but yet you rush to judgment about his (her) lifestyle choices.
Lots of people shirk their child-support responsibilities (and not just the "deadbeat dads" the media like to talk about). Here's someone who is trying to be responsible!
Consumers pay either way. The difference is that most consumers don't pay high recycling fees to keep toxic waste out of the landfill - they just chuck it in the garbage. So the idea here (100% non-enforceable, I think) is to prevent the latter from occurring.
I posted this before, and it's a little out of date... but what the hell, here it is again:

When I think back on all the crap I read on Slashdot
It's a wonder I can think at all
And though my frequent links to goatse.cx
Haven't hurt me none

You give us those nice fast downloads
You give us the warez and Napster
Makes you think all the world's a fast freeway, oh yeah!
I got a Sony laptop
I love to look at... photographs
So Mama, don't take my Ricochet away
If you took all the sites I read
When I was "working"
And brought them all together for one spell
I know they'd never match
one brilliant round of trolling...
And everything looks worse on DSL

Unless the sender and recipient are under NDA, this would be laughed so far out of court it would land in the ocean. And not just in the Ninth Circuit.
Of course, some unscrupulous shark might push Congress for a law saying C&D letters are confidential, but I can't imagine that passing 1st amendment scrutiny.
But as you might expect, Slashdot has improved over society. Here you can always tell who loves or hates you, and you are reminded whom you love or hate. You can even ignore your enemies by assigning them a negative comment bonus. Just think of how convenient the world would be with those signals visible!
Not so - CDNow, Amazon, et al. have reasonable return policies and active message boards. Take a look at the "More Fast and Furious" page on Amazon.. tons of complaints. It is very likely that these vendors will warn their customers, because returns and chargebacks are very expensive!
As for me as a buyer: I use my iPod for all my music, so I have no plans to buy any CD I can't rip into real MP3. Warnings will help me make reasonable decisions here. Vendors who wish to sell crippled CDs will need to find other customers.

These are agreements, combinations, and conspiracies in restraint of trade and should be treated as such!
You can't make money giving shit away when it costs you money. Hence, the dot-com crash.
ISPs sell flat rate service and have for years. Yet we have thousands of ISPs still in business. Bzzt, try again.
Exactly. Why do you think iPod is such a hit? Hint: It's not for the Breakout game.
But if Congress DOES NOT get involved, you can still use free software that isn't crippled by all this shit.

no sound; not much animaition; very little scripting; and easy to read (black on white) text.

if by "honest" you mean "for sale to the highest bidder."
Probably since you didn't include a fat soft-money contribution.
What, you want it to work or something?
If this happens, I will gladly violate the law. Period.

The cost of printing a million books is vastly smaller than 1M times the cost of printing one custom book. Should Random House have a monopoly?

Does this mean I'll get a ton of ads for Visual Studio XP, since I keep seeing their banners on OSDN?
That's totally secure, right?

You mean more than one person actually owns an HDTV set?
$150K for one of these. Fuck! Must be someone who wants serial#1 for the collector's value.
I am posting many comments here because I think Kathleen and Rob's engagement is fabulous, and I would like to see it as far up the HOF as possible!

Tux Marching into Tomorrow with the Great Flag of the People is just too cute to pass up. Make it a slashdot topic!
