    I have gotten rid of vehicles that sucked less than the Slashdot beta. Seriously even that '85 Bronco II where everything was rusty, none of the body panels matched, and that had bad compression on the #5 cylinder sucked less than beta.slashdot.org.

    Well its a big question as to whether slashdot is worth more $$$ to Dice Holdings as a success or as a failure. Wiping that $13 or so million off the books will have an effect on their end of year financials

    Can we get over it already? The beta look is not that bad. If you don't like it, there are browser plugins you can use to change the look. Or, less talk, more action, GTFO. I'm tired of scrolling through pages of Beta nagging and filtering actual comments from all the bitching.

    No we can't get over it. And no a plugin will not fix what is fundamentally wrong with the Beta. And the reason that you are scrolling through all those comments is because the corporate overloads will not listen to valid criticisms about the short comings of the Beta site

    How much of a market share does Adobe DRM have in the eBook world? I didn't get a clear picture from any of TFA's (yep I read them) as to how prevalent this DRM is.

    But yeah, if I had an affected system I would be pissed, and rightly so.

    I remember hearing this same story (regarding flattening of the body) already in the 90s.

    The only thing that I can see is novel is that they measured the aerodynamic properties of the airfoil shape and came up with hard numbers for how good it is.

    But being the pussies they are, the VT people didn't measure this on actual snakes in flight, and only tested a model!

    Herodotus in his History mentioned flying snakes in Arabia/Egypt. Many considered it one of the more fanciful tales in that work.

    So your solution could be open source, but you may buy it, on the other hand you think you can develop part of what you want from scratch. And it could be on Windows 8, Linus or OS X.

    The whole description is rather too rambling to make any real sense of. You would have been better off just asking what recommendations people have for a PC base music studio and left it at that, and let moderation bubble up various best of breed solutions.

    And in hind sight I bet the "Open source" part of the topic was added for you.

    It just MIGHT take a bit more than a .22 and the sound of shots will garner a pretty quick response in most towns.

    Who says you have to do it in town. The funny thing is that electricity is generally delivered along wires suspended from big tall visible towers that meander all over the place in the country side. And nobody out in the sticks is going o worry about a few odd shots heard in the distance during the day (or even night)

    (That said, I do agree with krauch aum that "length does not equal insight," I just happen to have differed in opinion about whether this article has insight. I'd also agree that this reads a little more like a blog than I'd personally like; I'm happier with items that are more like news articles than op-eds. I'd still rate this as a good write-up overall.)

    So you agree with the OP on length and quality and "bloginess", but you suggest that Bennet disregards those comments?

    Irrelevant to the OPs assertion that if you want to write a blog do it elsewhere.

    I agree with OP that this style of "submission" is not what /. is about and making me read all this in order to get to the comments is bullshit.
