I read the first line of the summary, and it was obvious that this was another Roland Piquepaille submission.
Then I looked up--and I was confirmed, but could there be any doubt, particularly after the last "nanotech" article he posted about a week ago? He posts articles that seem like they are written by a college freshman. They aim for an air of profundity, but the reveal him to know nothing at all about what he is writing about.
I'm off to watch something more brainy that Piquepaille's pseudo-science: the Texas-OSU football game.
Let me put it this way: if you want a visa to visit Russia, it is easiest to pay a bribe and you will conveniently get your passport delivered back to you in person in a train/subway station.
I think your post is sensible. The one thing that came out of the Lebanon disaster was that Israel and Hezbollah were both shown to be led by morons.
However, in my post I was trying to address the excessive demonization of Ahmenijad. People should keep his place in perspective, he does not even have a very powerful role in the Iranian system of government.
The Bush administration would like to send a revolutionary army into Iran, and that would end in disaster for both the US and Iran. They are trying to rally their base by demonizing Iran, and there are a lot of lies and half-truths being put on the airwaves, especially on talk radio, that follows their talking points.
That is a very poor argument. Where exactly are they supposed to go? They are poor farmers, and they do not have cars nor the funds to live in a hotel for a few weeks [much like some Katrina victims].
I've heard too many people carry on about the supposed benefits of what is variously termed "globalization" or the "global economy". I have yet to see any of these mythical benefits, in fact, so far as I'm concerned all that is happening is just an example of involuntary foreign aid from the United States to China.
You make it sound like China is somehow coercing us.
If you think it's involuntary, you should reflect upon what our leaders like Blair, Bush, Clinton, Thatcher have been doing intentionally. They are helping the wealthy investor class extract a lot of wealth from middle America.
Sure, China and India are gaining a little but the top 1% of America is cashing in. (Of course, in the long run Japan and China will rock us because they are being serious about industrial research, but that's a different story).

Thank god American football is only shown on Sunday [and Saturday for college, and Monday nights, and some Friday and Thursdays] or else I'd never get anything done!
There is DEFINITELY such a thing as academic credential inflation. There was no such thing as an MBA fifty years ago, yet people managed to run very large companies.
The problem is that other countries won't be able to prevent the oppression of Iranians any more than Iranians could. The Iraq fiasco should be evidence enough that interference there to prevent them from getting nukes is a bad idea. You can always set up an embargo/blockade on a country that already has nukes.
Iran is at least progressive enough to have Jewish members of its parliament. The US/UK administrations are putting up a lot of warmongering propaganda to paint them as an immediate threat, when Akmenidjad is just a bastard who is full of hot air.
From Wikipedia:
A persistent myth is that the "World" in "World Series" came about because the New York World newspaper sponsored it. Baseball researcher Doug Pappas refutes that claim, demonstrating a linear progression from the phrase "World's Championship Series" (used to describe the 1903 series as well as some of the 19th-century postseason series) to "World's Series" (a term first used in the 1880s and which persisted for decades) to "World Series". Furthermore, investigation of the New York World for the relevant years revealed no evidence of the supposed sponsorship. (For details, see Mr. Pappas' web page on the subject.)
In deference to any controversy, more and more the term "World Series Championship" is being used, the subtlety being that it is merely a title and not a political statement.
Book Review of Exit, Voice, and Loyalty by A.O. Hirschman
Yun Zhang
In his book Exit, Voice, and Loyalty, Hirschman addresses the question how an organization could discern its wrongdoings and come back to the right track. The author is motivated by the observation that "under any economic, social, or political system, individuals, business firms, and organizations in general are subject to lapses from efficient, rational, law-abiding, virtuous, or otherwise functional behavior". It is beneficial to the whole society if these lapses could be reverted and efficiency restored.

Compare Khomeini's rhetorical bloviation with the actions of Israel, which literally wiped much of Lebanon off the map.
I think it is good that ubuntu is winning, because Debian's apt-get is the one we should go with.
Come on, this stuff is Ancient History!!
I was not intending to be precise. Regardless the US was delivering significant aid to Britain before 1942.
That is factually incorrect, the US was quite popular during the period 1940-1965.

It was the most beautiful place I've seen and one of the most exciting events of my life, even though I didn't see any of the tourist attractions.
It has been alledged by Ron Suskind that high administration officials authorized the bombing of Al-Jazeera reporters.

Hahahahaha.
Good post... This is probably the best account of political economy I have seen in years on /.

Everything about this post is so wrong.
That's a GREAT point. Until MacQuake came out, war2 was THE game for Mac/PC gaming.
Personally, I prefer running 5Ks to 5 miles.
