Like the hell they are. The troops, I'm not going to give any shit, but to say that we're there for the Iraqis? Please. If we were, we would've been in iraq in 2001. Not 2 years afterwards. It's not like Saddam got any worse between 2001 and now.
Actually, the reason why they held back the Theatrical release WAS to make it oscar worthy. And even if it was dubbed, it sure as hell was better than L&S... Which could've spanked both ice age and treasure planet.
no, TOS worked back decades ago because that's what the tv viewers wanted. however, flash forward decades later, and the concepts and precepts of TOS is outdated. The style's dead.
I want DS9 type storyarcs. I want some filler, I don't want to miss a week or three and be totally lost. I couldn't get into B5 because I had no idea what was going on. I jumped into DS9 right before the shit went down with the Dominion, and I got it.
Then again, what the Star Trek franchise could use is a dense, modern anime style story, 26 eps(roughly 2 seasons) worth of story. little to no filler, great characters, interesting story, yadda yadda yadda, but looking at enterprise, I doubt that'll happen...
Console. Although, I'll give credit to nintendo for keeping the GB line backwards compatable. GB games aren't cheap, but aren't console level expensive. Plus, with as relatively expensive as consoles are, backwards compatability is more of an issue for consoles than handhelds...
what about metal gear solid/metal gear solid 2? That was purely hideo kojima's vision.
You forget, for every David Crane there's houses of developers who cranked out crappy games.
There's a reason why games dependant on one person's unique voice are rarely developed, very few people have anything moderately worthwhile to listen to.
Yeah, and most of those games sucked. Open ended gigantic universe doesn't mean anything if there's no clear direction the game has. Like take Mario 64. That had a decently sized game environment, somewhat open in the way you'd go, but you had focus and something to do. Not that i enjoy games that are basically games on rails, but I'd prefer a point to why I'm shooting something rather than blindly doing something for the sake of doing it.
Sony isn't. They're making a few bucks per PS2 sold. So is nintendo. Nintendo and Sony are both international world class companies, they're not stupid. *coughMicrosoftcough*
WRong. that required the VGS adapter, which was an entire 2600 on a chip, which isn't too hard, it was only about three chips to begin with. PS2 was compatable OUT OF THE BOX from day ONE. No console can make that claim
But when you're comparing current generation to current generation, the lead is quite huge. XBox 2 is quite some time away, and nintendo hasn't even announced any new game console. Not only that, more playstations have been sold than any nintendo or sega product, combined. Sony has a brand loyalty, loyal developers, and a huge library of games. I'd say sony's got a good hold on the console market for right now.
It was a 2 year old system(Released in Japan in early 2000, late 1999) when XBox and GC hit the scene, even in Japan the amount of HDTVs on the market didn't warrant strong HD support. NOT ONLY THAT, the GC wasn't designed with HD in mind either. In terms of hardware life time, it's on it's third year, into it's fourth. When PS3 comes out in 2005(I believe the proper projected sony street date), it'll be almost six years old for god's sake.
Besides, it does support 16x9 output anyway, so blame developers for not taking advantage of this. Konami does 16x9 with Beatmania IIDX, which was DESIGNED for 16x9(Take a look at one of the arcade screens, you'll know what I mean). Polyphony Digital does 16x9 with Gran Turismo 3: ASpec, not only that, it does it damn well.
Atleast you're not bitching about the quality of games on the ps2;)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater has never been a must-have, killer app for a console. It's a multi-platform game that, while appeals to a great many people, probably won't get people to buy one console or the other.
Unreal Championship was fun. When it was called Unreal Tournament 2k3.
The only real must have game for Xbox is Steel Batallions...
Las Vegas has only three arcades, not counting casino arcades. One can barely be called an arcade any more, as it's more computer/lan gaming than it is coin op games now, one's a shady arcade that's open for about 5 hours during the day, and the other is Gameland, quite possibly one of the best arcades next to say, AI.
Unless of course, you live in Southern California... (Where there's bemani games EVERYWHERE... Including a donut shop and a McDonalds...)
The average gamer often just wants something fun. Games that start as 300 page design documents just don't sound fun, no matter how much effort went into them. Now, maybe if the game started out as a 15 page comic book.....
Metal Gear SOlid 2 had a heavier script than the obscenely scripted Metal Gear Solid 1 did.
Guess what?
IT. WAS. FUN. Not only that, it scared the crap out of me at times.(Note: Huddled up in the dark while trying to avoid guards = bad. Neither is huddling up in the dark listening to the Colonel go whacko).
Where's the problem? The implementation of the huge design document. Sometimes it's a success. Sometimes you end up with Daikatana.
compared to seamus blackley? He said in the article, "The number one problem we have with design is that we don't know who we are designing for..." YET Miyamoto knows exactly who to design for, and can shit hit titles out of his asshole because he knows what he's doing.
And to think.. Seamus Blackley said that Miyamoto was what was wrong with the gaming industry... I therefore conclude that Seamus blackley is officially "Full of Shit."

just my 2 pesos though.
Game Gear WAS a portable master system.
Oops. My bad.
I revisit my statement.
The PS2 is the only console in the last 15 years to have backwards support out of the box.
...DDR Much?

SuperGameBoy, and do i remember that well. And just think, Nintendo's about to do that trick again...
Nomad could only play genesis games, it was a genesis handheld.

Further more, if they were inspecting the code, AND confident with the "bugs" they found, why didn't they fix them while they were in there?
TONS.
Sega GT, Sega NFL 2002, dozens of other games.

House of the Dead III, Virtua Fighter Evolution, and Virtua Striker 3 all run on XBox based hardware.
HotD 3, VFE, and VS3 were all premiered at the AMOA 2002 show.
Romero, is that you?

Nitpitcking. But, Sammy's a Japanese Pachinko/Pachislot manufacturer.
But you're mostly right. The Dreamcast did sink like a brick in water because of that man's insane spending policies.

Commands? MS took from apple's CP/2, if my history is right.
