Err, Computer game development is very inclusive, you can get SDL tools for your language of choice for free on your platform of choice and build something that's cross platform OR use any number of freely available engines out there.
What happens inside of a games console is very much a walled garden, because what's out there isn't that great. Driver conflicts, shitty OSes(including OSX; it's a better desktop OS than windows; but horrible to game on), cheating online, etc. etc. etc. just is a lousy experience.
Don't blame consoles for PCs not making the argument for their own existence as gaming devices obvious enough. You PC gamer guys had years to make a compelling case and you guys BLEW it. Absolutely.
This is my point. There's no right for UMG to wield the power they do on YouTube's service. There's a right for UMG to request takedowns and so forth, but, to just take down videos ad hoc? no way.
That's really hasty. I think that htc doesn't give a flying biscuit about software support. If they were really interested in selling you new phones p, they wouldn't bother with Android. They'd pump out feature phones.
Is there something inherently better with iOS development? Is the API better written? Is there some technological inferiority to Android? Is it cheaper to buy the development tools for iOS?
FTFA
Unfortunately for Google, this is just the tip of the iceberg with respect to the uphill battle they face in the fight for developers. Clunkier development tools for Android have been on ongoing problem, and let's not forget about the vast number of scamware, crapware and malware apps that permeate through the Android Marketplace. The lack of an approval process for apps on Android certainly has its benefits, but letâ(TM)s not forget thereâ(TM)s also a downside to being open.
So you mean I get to use lousier development tools, potentially have my app hijacked by scammers looking to repackage my app as malware AND deal with fragmentation?
You're what's wrong with politics in America. Assuming you're American, of course.
No, thousands and thousands of hours doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to eventually make any number of endless gaffes attributed to Bill O'Reilly. Or Sean Hannity. Or any other Fox News blowhard.
okay, I got one detail wrong. It's not like I confused a Polk with a Peabody. Or get the whole details behind Malmedy wrong. Or any number of other things that Billo's gotten just wrong.
This false equivalency thing is bullshit. Please stop it.
When I tried to flex my friend's Droid X it snapped in half too.:)
Seriously though, most users aren't looking for flexibility. I really don't want the option of being able to run Apache on my phone and being able to SSH into it so I could configure it right.
They're looking for practical applications of their devices and Apple's doing a damn good job of attracting application developers.
I co-incidentally happen to be in Helsinki, a few miles away from Nokiaâ(TM)s global headquarters in Espoo, Finland. Walking around the downtown (where I am staying), I have seen many more iPhones than Nokia phones. And most of the startup people I met have some variation of the iPhone. One of them who is still in college told me that Nokia gave him one of their new phones, and he decided to use it as a way to support his nationâ(TM)s largest employer. A month later, he switched back to the iPhone. Ouch! When you canâ(TM)t give away your phones to your own âoeyouth,â it is time to stop hating on other platforms and look for ways to get people to use your product.
at this point, it's Android and iPhone fanboys versus stupid Nokia exec.
I think that trying to find a consensus amongst youth is stupid and foolish. Just because a group of youth take to something doesn't mean that this is what the young do or are into.
That's fine and all, and what I was going to suggest, but what happens when it's intermittent? What the hell exactly do you log? Do you have access to core dumps?
The problem with trying to capture this kind of data is when there's no crash but it's doing something it's not supposed to. Worse yet, your user can't communicate what's wrong.
It's hard to vote with your wallet when you're stuck with a nuanced position.
I thought Sony was being a bag of dicks. Evil? No, but, I think I finally came around to how I can circle the square with how I feel about Apple and Sony products. Someone on another article said that Apple is mean, not evil.
I really like the PS3. The XMB is far and away superior to the Metro dashboard(Metro's freaking -awesome- otherwise; I just don't think they implemented right on the 360). I can use standard bluetooth and usb accessories with it. I can upgrade it's harddrive with an off the shelf part...
But yeah, they pulled OtherOS and that was a huge dick move. I don't want to stop buying Sony. But I also don't like what they've done. I don't want to stop gaming; I don't want to buy a 360, I don't want to build a PC(besides; not all games I play are on PC).
Gee, I have myself to blame for having a console I enjoy? I have myself to blame for having a gaming device that doesn't require regular maintenance and doesn't BSOD when I look at it wrong? I have myself to blame for having an interface that's not mostly fucking ads?
Because games like Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter and so forth aren't available for Android?
The real deal maker for me is games

Try again.
errr
Or they could patch the bug.
Sony didn't remove the PSOne emulation layer when the Independence exploit got found out. They fixed the damn bug.
You can still view TIFF files on the PSP, despite the loads of TIFF exploits.
Because you can run these funny little things called "Commercial games?" You can find them in stores! It's amazing!
Option+s for ÃY and option + u then vowel for umlaut.

why are you talking about the DMCA giving UMG the right to do this?
It's YouTube. Youtube's letting them do this.
Granted, it's due to DMCA threats but... The fact that there isn't any oversight on YouTube/google's part is scary.
That's really hasty. I think that htc doesn't give a flying biscuit about software support. If they were really interested in selling you new phones p, they wouldn't bother with Android. They'd pump out feature phones.
When the 3G shipped, the g1 came out. When the 3G stopped getting support, the g1 was already 2 or 3 years behind the rest of the Android ecosystem.
Choice is great. But when Microsoft is doing better than you in UI and customer experience, throw in the towel.
what's your metric for success? If Win8 and WinPhone 7 tank, Microsoft could go the way of IBM.
Sure, they're #1 in desktop marketshare, but at what cost?
Screw the language. Interface builder rocks. Using XML files with no WYSIWYG editor? Screw that.

They're a destructive force.

Bill O'Reilly routinely makes shit up. Routinely. So much so Ford's Theater is refusing to sell his book.
He makes a lot of really shitty points and engages in fights with his subject matter so often he's known for it.
Keith Olbermann's a wacko? On Rush Limbaugh levels? Are you watching the same show I am?
When was the last time MSNBC held a rally? Or hosted a debate? Or did any of the insanely nutty shit Fox News does on a daily basis?
I think that Steve Jobs pegged Fox News right, calling it a destructive force and that Rupert Murdoch was fucking it all up.
Unless somehow shows about prison are just as equally as poisonous as Sean Hannity.
If Rachel Maddow is "extreme" to you, then I really have no idea what you consider "center."

Nokia can't even give away their phones!

Sure, but if I buy an Xbox, or build a gaming rig, then I'm stuck with problems that are way more practical than philosophical.
I'd rather struggle philosophically while playing games than struggling with BSODs, RRODs, driver problems, etc and not playing games.

What the hell do I do?
Blame the litigants.
They didn't make that argument, it seems.
Sure, anything published after April or May of 2010.

Fuck you, me. You're an asshole.
GPL v2 or v3?
Sounds perfectly compatible with V2.
