That alone, so broadly worded, is not illegal if that 'someone else' owns the device. There are thousands of electronics technicians in the USA (and far more in China) who do this for a living.
If someone gives you money to install a modchip or JTAG your Xbox 360, that's distribution of circumvention devices. It is highly illegal.
I am an iOS fanboy and I will talk a lot of smack about Android. The reality is though, for it's flaws, Android is very good but it's so close to being great it's frustrating.
What Google needs to do is set some pretty basic UI guidelines for apps or make better UI APIs and to crack down on handset lock down(I'm willing to put up with Apple's walled garden approach because they deliver what they claim. Google can't be hollering about how their OS is open and at the same time require people to root their phones). Desktop OSes suck on mobile devices(see Windows Mobile) and Android is probably the best commodity OS out there. Although WP7 looks promising. Haven't used a WP7 device yet.
Right, but you don't have the right to charge money to install chips into someone else's device. There's all sorts of legal precedent for that from cars to guns to any number of other items you're prohibited from doing. That's why he went to jail.
I'm guessing there's serious TCO and maintainability issues being addressed.
I had a funny conversation with a guy in another department, he's bitching about 32bit vs 64bit ODBC for some long overdue infrastructure changes, I looked at him and said, "I did sudo yum install mysql" and just ported my packages over.
I don't know. I can imagine Larry Ellison and Steve Jobs playing nice. They're in mutually exclusive industries other than the slight overlap between Xserves and Sun servers(well, and maybe Mac Pros and Sun workstations; however, given the slim niche nature of these products, I don't think they're fighting it out).
I don't predict another Apple/Adobe, I think it's more likely Apple/Google. Some tension, but, they're nice enough to each other. Given that Steve-o's loosened his grip on interpreted code on iDevices, I'm pretty sure the next step is a JavaTouch type API that would allow java devs to work in a multitouch environment ensnaring Javaheads to do work on iDevices making everyone happy. Oracle gets to have a direct hand in the form of a JDK that can target iOS devices running a real JVM(as opposed to Dalvik, Dalvik's nice, but it's strictly not a JVM), and Apple gets to have up to date java releases for the desktop freeing up their own resources for other duties.
I saw a review linked from daring fireball and one of the things they noted was that various ad solutions didn't work right. I suspect this isn't the nature ofthe problem though.
In fairness, there are Vocaloids which can handle English much better, but this story seemed to be specifically about Hatsune Miku.
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker featured biomechanical robots who's voices in game were generated using the Vocaloid software. Even in the English versions.
Whenever I'm giving an Android a spin, as an Apple fanboy, I never EVER think, "GOD I wish I was on my iPhone." It's always, "jesus thank god we got away from Windows Mobile."
I hate their philosophies and business practices, but, if they saw my vision of their products to be valuable, maybe it means they're willing to start heading the other way. Win7 and Win Phone 7 are pretty good indicators that something is spinning in the Microsoft machinery hopefully for the better.
All of the characters except River and the Preacher could've been fed to the wraiths and the show would've been better for it.
the show sucked. bad.
Besides, you didn't counter the whole, low ratings and the fact that Dollhouse sucked too AND the Fox network did everything fans asked(Consistent timeslot, no preemption for sports, etc etc).
There's a reason why House is still on the air despite the so-bad-it-might-as-well-be-scifi take on medicine. Plus we totally got to see Lisa Edelstein nearly naked this season.
In theory, you don't need lights, tables, desks, books that are in good condition and up to date, pencils, pens...
It enriches the environment. Having a projector and well put together power point with video and audio in the right hands can achieve more than a beat up set of books and a white board can, bar none.

I don't think so.

straight pipes, actually. don't know if electronic limiters are illegal to remove.

No, but they hopped ship from Windows anyway.

He was a little pissed...
I'm a VB.net developer who eats taco bell every night you insensitive clod!
I use PS3MediaServer.
it's written in Java and does a damn fine job of transcoding my media for my ps3.
I say bollocks.

I say we find everyone who submitted patent ideas before 2002 and buy them a drink.
Nothing's been more of a driver of IT support than those awful little boxes. Thanks for the job security guys!

I'm going to make a bundle off of confused OSX 10.7 users demanding to have their OSX machines jailbroken so they can install any app they want.
Whenever I'm giving an Android a spin, as an Apple fanboy, I never EVER think, "GOD I wish I was on my iPhone." It's always, "jesus thank god we got away from Windows Mobile."
bitblit operations and other 2D graphical effects are nearly free in terms of CPU and battery life.
or should be, at any rate.
HTC's Sense and Motorola's MotoBlur are really superficial skins and have been mischaracterised has some kind of OS re-write.
something Steve and Apple fanboys understand that Google and it's fanboys fail to understand is that to users, the interface IS the OS.
A person isn't more than their personality but that's what we judge them for.
It's kind of refreshing to read him basically say, "Uh, whoops. I fucked up."
I would work for Microsoft, if given the chance.

Firefly topped at like, 98th in the ratings. Dollhouse? Didn't do much better and it stayed put for two seasons.
Serenity's boxoffice draw sucked.
Besides, Firefly wasn't that good to begin with.
Give me good character dramas, lousy SciFi shows about ships that are less reliable than my Hyundai Sonata just aren't interesting.
You're being pedantic, and he's being a salesman. :)
Since when was hoping your boss an unreasonable expectation? Jesus. Makes me question his competency.
When you wrote this rant did you have an onion in your belt, as was the style at the time?

What's wrong with tech in education isn't so much the problem with distractions is with teaching.
Tech based distractions are nothing with a good, engaging teacher at the front of the class, even when the subject matter is boring.
Sweet Zombie Jesus you're right!
