I see tonnes of people saying that someone can buy it and just throw the iso up on an ftp for everyone to get.. thats only true if its all free software on the ISO.
if they include their own proprietary progs like suse's yast, you can't do that.
This is very interesting.Everyone seems to have a different take on this which means not many people seems to understand the GPL very well. I know I don't but my immediate thought was: "hey wtf! They can charge for the binaries but they have to make the source available!"
I guess I didn't realise that they don't really contribute to any programs other than to distro specific ones...
I guess all most distros do is collect GPL software, compile it and configure it.. This way, they can charge for their service..
as far as the availability of the sources, that's up to the maintainers of the individual software programs.:)
Those 2 patents (one click shop and a one click warm up device for the car) are VERY different!!
One patents an implementation the other an idea. If you want to come up with your own device to start a car with a button you're free to do so. If you want to come up with your own way to make a site with '1 click shopping' you can't!! because they patented ALL the possible ways to do it (in effect).
But not much useful in a real war. I remember hearing about similar spies, but they were flying microbots modelled after dragonflies. Now those were really cool. About 1/10th of the size of these, much faster and more mobile. Much harder to damage too I assume, how can you shoot a dragonfly out of the sky?
on another note, it's nice to see linux being made use of. That's what it's here for. Also, watch the realvideo hehe, it's funny when you hear the scientists name.
quote: Pirated games hurt developers. Every time you play a game that was not purchased through legitimate channels, you are costing a developer money.
That's not true at all! Because software costs nothing to replicate. If you have no intentions of buying the game. Then go out and find a pirated copy, no one has lost any potential money and you've gained a nice game.
This happens with windows 2000. Do you think most people need DATACENTER? how much does it cost again? A lot. If someone who can't afford it pirates it, M$ hasn't lost any money!
I think your main problem is counting your chickens before your eggs have hatched. The money is does not belong to the developers until and not before it's handed over.
Not only that but I believe developers get a tiny fraction of what the companies, publishing houses etc. get. Just like in the music industry.
Now if I could just get support for my TV tuner and DVD decoder,I would never need to book into Windows.
But you already HAVE support for the TV tuner. Look at your kernel configuration. In fact, Mandrake 8.0 beta 1 detected and installed support for my TV tuner automagically.
As for the DVD decoder, most likely the manufacturer is not being very helpful. So use software mode:) It works well enough if you have a midrange or above CPU.
Also, if adds used SMALLER fonts they might be able to fit some USEFUL information in the banner spaces, eliminating the need for larger banners while attracting more clickthroughs.
alright, the first like 10 adds were like that which made me mad. However i've just seen a couple which are a little better.
However, I don't need 50pt text to read adds, I use 10pt for the main content which I can read just fine. Any movement in the adds distracts my eyes giving me a headache when I'm trying to read the more important content.
I've just reloaded/. and kuroshin a few times with the purpose of seeing what kinds of adds are being used now.
Every single add I saw on both sites was FLASHING COLOURS IN MY FACE.
It reminds me exacly why I started running junkbuster.
My advice to you is to dissallow adds like this so as not to annoy people enough to go look for filtering software.
If adds flashed less it would be a good start.
Microsoft software doesn't need any anti-propaganda! Just yesterday I performed a clean install of windows 2000 advanced server for my friend during which we witnessed no less than 8 bugs!

Hmmm. Microsoft must have said that a gazillion times therefore everyone at Microsoft is incredibly insane including bill gates.
Woohoo! We now have definate proof! Lock them up!

What would happen if someone were to base 3d filemanagement and other tools on something like this?
it sounds like spin.. I wish they had said they would put more efforts into their distro and not their apps. Their distro could be a viable migration path away from windows for some people.
I've seen these before on that show 'Gladiators'. They roll around banging into each other and trying to score goals.
Watch out radioactive man!
Here comes a musclely man out of it.
