Unfortunately, the end-user is expected to understand that everything that comes on the CD with a game is "blessed", and therefore eligible for phone tech support.

I've never heard of anyone getting any form of support for window~.

Most of all, the EULAs you click through usually say things along the lines of:
    1. You don't own this software.

Company 1 looses on purpose, a precedent is set, the GPL gets publicity and a bunch of great arguements for it displayed in court.

It doesn't really matter what the GNU's vision/aim for the GPL is as concerns the social implications of IP. The GPL is a license, a legal tool. It has an effect when you use it. This effect is not dictated by the Free Software Foundation. It is dictated by the nature of the GPL itself.

They also pointed out very clearly their next target. It's the GPL and they have it firmly in their sights. Believe me when I say that, even as we speak, there are many lawyer man-hours preparing for a full blown attack of the GPL being paid for in Redmond. They are most likely preparing to come down on the GPL with all their might as soon as their antitrust case is resolved (or settles down, depending on Bush).

It's ridiculous to assume that an end user who can only use a simple (windows-like?) GUI will know anything about security.

    • If I were in the position of improving the general level of security within government branches, I would:
    • Move every computer onto linux
    • Force every single employee to take computer/security/*nix classes before allowing them access to the institution's computers or issuing one
    • Start an R&D team of developers on developing GPL'd secutiry tools as needed.
    • Install smart GPS hardware/software into laptops which can do things such as alert a central security office when a laptop leaves the building, goes into a dissalowed area, is left unatended in an insecure area.

That would be a good start.

Not only that. The stratification in the country only gets WORSE. 95% of the wealth in brazil is held by 2% of the people. This is a country where money buys ANYTHING. I'm not just talking about a good laywer. Money buys you the law itself, cops, judges etc. Hell, I was there when money bought a cokehead-nutcase, first a governorship, then the presidency! Do you really think, in a country where the rich have ALL the power and little morals the poor will ever get the chance to redistribute some of that wealth? No fucking way! They get shafted day in, day out. The government is NOT doing enough to redistribute some of that wealth. It should be taxing the rich a hell of a lot more and maybe then they can pay for school meals and schools which don't fall appart.
