Unfortunately, the end-user is expected to understand that everything that comes on the CD with a game is "blessed", and therefore eligible for phone tech support.
What are you talking about!? When have you ever bought a Microsoft product and expected ANY support?
I've never heard of anyone getting any form of support for window~.
Most of all, the EULAs you click through usually say things along the lines of:
1. You don't own this software.
2. We're not responsible for anything tha goes wrong. Blah blah blah.
why don't they mention when it will be released?
It would have a lot to do with how much attention I pay to this right now. I don't wanna be waiting for a game for ages. Just tell me when:)
I wish there were an easier way for consumers to pressure companies than boycotting. Most people just won't go without their DVD to make a statement against MPAA because there is no alternative.
It's too bad that Washington D.C. (tm) is in the pocket of the corporations. If washington were listening to comsumers, laws like the DMCA and schemes like the DVD region protection would be history.
Let's take the GPL to court before Microsoft can and on our own terms prove it's legality. >:)
Start with two companies who are both on the same side; that of the GPL. Company 1 takes the GPL'd work of company 2 and flaunts that it's used it in proprietary work.
Company 2 sues company 1. They both present a good case, but of course they end up proving the GPL to be legal ( since they're both on the same side).
Company 1 looses on purpose, a precedent is set, the GPL gets publicity and a bunch of great arguements for it displayed in court.
It doesn't really matter what the GNU's vision/aim for the GPL is as concerns the social implications of IP. The GPL is a license, a legal tool. It has an effect when you use it. This effect is not dictated by the Free Software Foundation. It is dictated by the nature of the GPL itself.
I don't think anyone really knows what will happen to the 'concept of IP' with the GPL's increase in use.
Not even the FSF.
With this statement Microsoft is trying to obfuscate alchin's comment so it doesn't sound so stupid. That's where the taxpayer-funded part came in. It's just there to confuse, since it makes no sense and they don't elaborate.
They also pointed out very clearly their next target. It's the GPL and they have it firmly in their sights. Believe me when I say that, even as we speak, there are many lawyer man-hours preparing for a full blown attack of the GPL being paid for in Redmond. They are most likely preparing to come down on the GPL with all their might as soon as their antitrust case is resolved (or settles down, depending on Bush).
I will be anxiously awaiting Microsoft's big move as it is sure to be impressive.
Why has NO ONE mentioned Micro$of~'s Windows XP?
Alright, allow me to point out what Windows XP has to do with this:
Quote: One totally new feature is the ability to allow one XP user to take control of another XP user's computer through the Internet, something Gates said would make it a snap to diagnose and fix problems.
The cooling ever broke down.. hehehe.
A thin wire carrying 150 times the power of the regular ones..
I immagine everything would be lost pretty quickly and there would be a massive blackout.
If they are deploying HT superconductors on this large a scale, what happened to all the other possible applications?
I don't see any good reason why anyone should listen to them. A lot of the points in that document are a matter of prefference. Also, since they can't even make a working browser themselves (maya sux0rz) what can they have to teach people who have browsers several levels above their's in functionality.
In a related story, cnn.com is also reporting that Osama Bin Laden and other terrorists are using this new technology called 'chemistry' to carry out their work.
'Chemistry' could be a new, important tool in the terrorists quest to stay one step ahead of authorities and commit mass-murder.
The senate will soon debate a bill which bans the use or export of this 'chemistry' and proposes stiff new regulations.
That won't change anything. The same silly security breaches would still plague them.
In my oppinion, the best way to insure these stupid security breaches don't occur is to use a nix, and only hire people who know or learn something about computers.
It's ridiculous to assume that an end user who can only use a simple (windows-like?) GUI will know anything about security.
If I were in the position of improving the general level of security within government branches, I would:
Move every computer onto linux
Force every single employee to take computer/security/*nix classes before allowing them access to the institution's computers or issuing one
Start an R&D team of developers on developing GPL'd secutiry tools as needed.
Install smart GPS hardware/software into laptops which can do things such as alert a central security office when a laptop leaves the building, goes into a dissalowed area, is left unatended in an insecure area.
What the fuck are you talking about?
I lived in Brazil for 11 years. I've seen a LOT of fucked up shit. The gap between the rich and the poor is fucking PHENOMENAL. The rich drive around in limos and mercedes and the poor cant afford shoes or food.
Not only that. The stratification in the country only gets WORSE. 95% of the wealth in brazil is held by 2% of the people. This is a country where money buys ANYTHING. I'm not just talking about a good laywer. Money buys you the law itself, cops, judges etc. Hell, I was there when money bought a cokehead-nutcase, first a governorship, then the presidency! (Fernando Color)
Do you really think, in a country where the rich have ALL the power and little morals the poor will ever get the chance to redistribute some of that wealth? No fucking way! They get shafted day in, day out. The government is NOT doing enough to redistribute some of that wealth. It should be taxing the rich a hell of a lot more and maybe then they can pay for school meals and schools which don't fall appart.
This is good, however I think there should be an effort to get the population LITERATE first before providing a computer that 70% can't afford in an attempt to get them 'internet literate'.
In a country where so many people don't finish school, public schools are a mess and many people can't even read, let alone afford 1/3 of that price...
On the other hand... I admire the fact that linux is used. Too bad the politicians only O.K.'d it because it would save them money.. but hey, a foot in the door is fine by me.

I thought there was some protection against these attacks included in the new linux kernel networkings.
so that's what a slashdotting is like. I didn't even link it.
