    The article seems to be implying a law enforcement arm of the U.S. Gov't has expanded surveillance above and beyond what was initially authorized.

    It seems certain if that if this were the case, in a representative democracy, someone's already scheduling a Congressional hearing to sort this out.

    Crap! It's Superbowl week and the Congresscritters are busy commenting on some quarterback's balls.

    As you sit comfortably in your home and life sheltered by a Western democracy, it is all too easy to take for granted the freedoms you enjoy. Stories like this are about the rest of the World's citizens, and what happens when individual rights go away.

    Relish this when you have a moment, but never, ever, stop struggling to protect the erosion of these inalienable rights. Totalitarian regimes aren't all born beneath a single governing style or philosophy.

    Unless it was an innocent mistake or a sinister scouting mission against defenses. In either of these cases, commotion would be quite the opposite of the reaction you'd be shooting for.

    If the safety feature enables the brakes when a crash is 'imminent', it takes away the driver's discretion during the times braking is not advisable.

    Slashdot has been fairly in the bag for the SJWs over the whole #gamergate thing, but this is a bit much. Really, we need be a advertizing platform for pet projects of the SJW crowd now? A "gender equality in tech" story 3 days a week wasn't enough? WTF happened to Slashdot? Broad political clickbait was a bit understandable but this is starting to look like a Gawker site.

    A sensitivity lawsuit referencing the obvious gender bias of members and editors on /. was settled out of court with some community service (that might be Timothy picking up trash along side the highway) and the publication of 'x' number of pro-SJW articles.

    We miss you Taco, but it's becoming clear why you left.

    I'm sure you're right. Everything else being equal, it would be advantageous to be the offspring of a caring mother.

    The thing is, with child-rearing, everyone has an opinion since almost everyone qualifies for the job. No one parent always makes the right call, and even though the very definition of right call varies from mom to mom, some make better decisions overall than others.

    I submit, that within boundaries, people are free to fuck up their kids as they see fit... that way we get some additional diversity.

    That's probably a good thing though. The rate of expansion during the last few years was crazy and obviously not sustainable. I'm not opposed to fracking until we see some more evidence of harm. But, that reckless of an expansion probably isn't a good idea either.

    I know the cost of living becomes unbearable for the folks willing to relocate in the oil boom-towns I am familiar with. If you were already here (or there), and had housing paid for, there's a good living to be had for a minute.

    But if you have to pay rent/mortgage: Folks paying $5-700 to live in their own RV in a field, $1100-a-month for a 1 BR apt in not the best location, and 60-100% above County property valuation for a home.

    Many welcome the break that is the bust cycle.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one that notices this. If you know how long a football field is, then you know how long 100 yards is. Or is it 120 yards- do you include the end zones?

    100 yards is the metric field... following the easy to multiply tens standard.

    I think you know 120 yards is only used popularly in the USian scale
