Yeah but why would they bother pissing away money on a 4G modem, M2M SIM and management of the whole shitshow when it's only 0.01% of customers who don't immediately connect to their wifi for free?
Economics are often a good way to protect your privacy.
Not at all. You just tell Google your name and the information that is not relevant any more, and they remove all results containing it from searches of your name, forever. You don't have to submit individual URLs or re-submit periodically, they do it automatically.
The point is that they don't general publish outright fabrications. Yes, yes, I'm sure you can find something that turned out to be untrue, those Chinese spy chips come to mind, but for the most part they are not trying to lie to you. Even if you disagree with their opinion pieces.
Your ability to copy/paste is admirable, but you might want to work on the formatting.
You mean "editors", as in people whose job is to maintain standards.
It's fashionable to attack them as being biased, but in practice the imperfect world of editing is preferable to the rivers of bullshit on Facebook etc.
The problem is that everyone wants to learn English so they can watch Hollywood movies and US/British TV shows. It's also very entrenched in a lot of countries where it's not the main language, e.g. in The Netherlands because there are a mixture of Dutch, German and French speakers they use English as a common language.
The wider EU is similar. Because we have freedom of movement it's trivial to work in a different country, and many people even commute over borders every day. The common working language is English.
Unfortunately we may be stuck with English, but the good news is that it's apparently not difficult at all for kids to learn. In many European countries English as a second language is nearly universal.
So your argument basically boils down to "fuck it, I'm doing it anyway". You know it's a bad idea, you know everyone else is trying to do the right thing (for whatever reason), but you... You just want to save a few bucks in the short term.
Unfortunately it was before GDPR and massive fines came in.
The bigger loss is that since the company has folded we will probably never get to see exactly what data they had on people. It's likely gone and there isn't much anyone can do about it.
What could you actually do though? Surely not regime change, they have ICBMs.
China is slowly liberalizing and improving its record. Part of that is due to increase scrutiny from the west, and because we demand higher standards in order to do business with them. RoHS is a good example, it cleaned up a lot of Chinese manufacturing despite only being a legal requirement for goods sold in the EU.
The best way to promote human rights and improve things in China is probably to do business with China, while constantly pushing for higher and higher standards. If we require the workers in Chinese factories making products for western companies to have worker's rights and reasonable conditions then it means their rights are being respected to a much greater extent, and leads to wider changes. We are now at the point where companies like to show off the working conditions and clean, tidy factories when advertising their goods and services, i.e. working conditions have become a selling point.
I'd welcome efforts to do more and make it happen faster, but I don't think "getting tough" is likely to so anything other than make them disengage.
Only if you are happy for India and China to look at the US and say "meh, they aren't making any effort, let's double/triple out per capita output and adopt their lifestyle too". Maybe you think that's okay, most scientists think it would be a global catastrophe.
Yeah, so from you and kalpol's response it seems that it's carrier installed crapware. If you buy the phone sans-contract or whatever you get the stock LG firmware that doesn't have Facebook.
That's true. Those OLEDs do look nice, although they are mostly just an incremental upgrade from last year. In fact the reviewers seem to be saying you might as well save some cash and buy last year's model.
I don't hate America. In fact, I want to see America do well because that is in everyone's interests.
Ironically, I am often accused of loving Obama, so if anything I'd expect to be accused of hating Trump, not America. For the record I'm not hugely fond of either of them.
If I seem to be defending your new arch enemy, China, it's only because in this case it's a gross misrepresentation of what is happening. Just as you wouldn't expect the US to stop on a dime and massively decrease emissions, you wouldn't expect China to instantly reverse direction when a large part of its population is still emerging from an agrarian way of life.
Being critical of the US federal government does not mean I hate the US. Also, I note that you don't actually have a counter-argument to my points, just a concession.
When the biggest news is that Apple has been forced to open up its services a bit to get new customs, rather than some interesting new tech, you know things have stagnated.
It's kind of a weird time to have a trade show though. Everyone gets all their new stuff out for xmas. This is the new project time with an eye on release later in the year. All the new phones are due around October...
Well, Nissan announced a new Leaf. It's a bit "meh" but it's something.
Would be great if someone could figure out how to make long distance trains more economically effective, especially for freight.
For passengers any flight that is about 2 hours or less is probably faster by train, once you factor in getting to the airport, going through security, boarding, and then getting to your destination from the other airport. But you need a network of very high speed trains.
Note that the headline is different and doesn't mention gas.
It's literally one click on my username to see my submissions. Why didn't you check? Be honest, were you triggered by seeing my name and just assumed?
The headline the editor used is from the Ars Technica article. Although 2018 was somewhat exceptional, it wasn't so exceptional that if nothing changes 2019 will see a reduction. And also I'm kinda fed up certain people using a much, much smaller increase in the EU as an excuse or the basis of a bogus claim that no-one else is making any effort.
Can I ask where you bought it from? I'm trying to determine if this is an LG problem or if the network operator sold you a custom version of the phone with their own crapware pre-installed.
Is this Samsung's fault though? They don't even bundle much of their own stuff any more, it's all an optional install from their app store (which is bundled).
Facebook sounds more like the kind of thing a third party would force on, i.e. the carrier that they bought the phone from. That's why it's usually best to buy from a third party - you get a vanilla, unmolested phone and the same contract you would have got anyway. Assuming you don't just buy the phone outright.
To be fair to the guy he did warn you that his products were cheap crap. 6.9 years is pathetic for a TV, and that's the average.
Thanks for the warning bro.

First result from a google of "fox news ignoring stories".
Fox is notorious for ignoring important news stories for political reasons. It's well documented.
I don't think you understand how editors work... Assuming Reddit is right, I'm not going to bother checking.
CNN makes mistakes. Fox is just trying to bullshit you.
Actually these days Fox seems to be trying to beam messages directly into the President's head.

Is that right? Is there some other reason?
Why exactly do you think I hate America?
Can you explain precisely what I say that makes you think I have some kind of irrational hatred of the entire country, and that I want to do it harm?
I think the new CEC spec supports switches being controlled by the TV, but don't quote me on that.
The lack of HDMI ports is frustrating. I think they use it to upsell higher end models by throwing in an extra port or two.
Unfortunately it was before GDPR and massive fines came in.

Troll, eh? Come forward cowardly moderator, make your case.

Hey, no need to make false accusations. Here is my original submission: https://slashdot.org/firehose....
