    I'd say we're still in the PC world. It's just that the "P" stands for portable now. In fact you could argue it's even more "personal" than the previous "PC".

    Exactly as you said "even if it's then ignored". Having an adviser is one thing. Listening to the advice is another. I'm afraid most governments heed their mothers advice to clean their ears.

    I think the above comment said it best: Java? Do you mean the language itself or the modern frameworks which have buried the language under a ton of various XML files? Java itself ain't that bad. The frameworks and XML hell designed by vendors to lock you in... definitely awful. Enterprise software is the problem.

    Maybe that is exactly what they should be doing. The key problem is that there are far to many people on this planet. With higher prices this should reduce the population explosion and maybe give us some sort of balance. I reckon getting down to 2-3 billion is enough. No need to kill anyone just fewer children due to high costs.
