    Obviously not everyone is ridiculing the idea, or else these people wouldn't be researching/publishing it.

    IMO the safe bet is that this won't pan out (like the FTL neutrinos), but the interesting/fun bet us that it will (as would have been the case with FTL neutrinos).

    I.e., Asimov's "That's funny..."

    Meh. The only good syrup at IHOP is the butternut stuff. Is it real? Is it syrup? Who effin cares - it's delicious!

    It's worse than that. If they're relying on intuition rather than education they should have concluded that storms make clouds better.

    Truth is, I don't think cloud technology is very high on the list of things students need to learn.

    I know I never encountered the term "conflict minerals" until reading this thread. To paraphrase Arlo: If they want to change the world and stuff they need to sing at least loud enough to be noticed.

    It's a simple generalization of "conflict diamonds", which you should be familiar with if you're paying attention to what's going on in your world.

    If you read the report, Nintendo came in last because they didn't release information on their policies. Pretty silly ranking system.

    Think of it as a lower bound on their actual performance. They can tighten it up if they decide to cooperate.

    Can somebody explain to me all the gloom and doom about losing scientific / technological leadership that gets dredged up every time creationism is mentioned? Myself, I'm a programmer by trade and consider myself a maker by hobby but I can't remember ever seeing the evolution of man in a schematic diagram.

    The problem *isn't* that everyone needs to know biology (they don't). The problem *is* that we've got politicians who want to legislate cult beliefs into reality despite very well established facts to the contrary. That kind of environment is not conducive to technological progress.

    Actually, once I spent a month in China, and when I got back home, eating with a fork and a knife felt so.. primitive and barbaric. You sit at the table and destroy the food by tearing and sawing.
