i got my series 2 tivo about 8 years ago for free after a mail in rebate for buying the $299 lifetime service. it still works. because i was previously a lifetime member, 3 years ago i was able to by my tivo hd for $199, and the lifetime service was discounted to $249. dual tuner HD while a 3rd tuner can record from the internet. also i have recourse if proper data isn't provided to me as i paid for it. also, the old tivo can connect to the new tivo and vice-versa... integrated content sharing between all devices.
$750 total. and it works GREAT, and i have recourse for programming data issues and multiple units in multiple rooms that share content.... vs. $590 for sage tv with a garbage interface, lacking HD support, and no custom controller.
