Same thing in Norway. All neighbouring countries may order the 770. But not in Norway. I tried to order through the swedish shop but my order was cancelled.
Quote:" Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting Nokia Online sales.
We are sorry but you order has been cancelled because we are not allowed to send in Norway yet.
We are sorry for this inconvenience."
Why is this? Very strange, and not very good customer support. Just send me the friggin Internet Tablet. Since no shops sell the thing I cannot just go over the border to sweden and pick one up either.
This device is sold out all over europe. Nokia underestimated their sales by quite a margin. Not to say that people will continue buy them when Nokia comes around to deliver their back orders.
Putting PHP in your comment makes no sense at all. PHP is a programming language. Its user interface may be HTML, or something else. Madmen are even developing GTK support for PHP. Other than that, you are of course right.
Take a look at europe for evidence. No software innovation is going on over here. Now if only the EU could implement a law that would spur innovation and development in the old world.
The patent examiners fight two battles: meet production, don't allow anything that makes the front page of slashdot.
So by putting all new patent applications on the frontpage of Slashdot no more patents would be issued? That is very interesting. Would you care to set up a RSS-feed for CmdrTaco?
SSH is a bad example here. At least with OpenSSH the connection will stay alive much longer than a drop out you do not notice lasts. For instance on mye Powerbook I close the lid for sleep mode for quite some time, and have the ssh connection still being up when I wake the it back up. Maybe it is a serverside configuration issue, but I do not care since it just works.
If your drop out gives you a new IP-adress that is of course a different issue. But it should not do that with a proper DHCP-server anyway.
By the way, I do not experience much drop outs like the ones you describe.
I agree. Look at Railroad Tycoon 3. Seems like they spent most of the time tweaking their graphics engine. Gameplay on game stopping bugs ruined the whole game. I wish they would opensource RT2 so fans can fix the multiplayer issues in that game.
You are wise, sir. Back in 1997 I bought my first PC. I made sure to add a 3D-card (Voodoo Rush) since 3DRealms had just announced that Duke Nukem Forever would require one. That turned out to be $300 down the drain.
I think wait until relase before I replace my Voodoo.
His Powerbook will run GNU/Linux. Depending on how old it is Wireless will or will not work. Hopefully if Apple use DRM they will use it to prevent OS X running on other computers and not to prevent Macs to run other operating systems.
I will probably* buy a Mac if the latter is true.
)* I own 4 Macs but my new laptop is a PC running Ubuntu.because if Macs wireless issues.
GRUB should handle dual booting just fine. At least for me Ubuntu detect Windows XP and Debian which then are added to the GRUB menu. One also gets memtest86.
It was not him that implied that users that have no clue want their MBR, it was me. The reason for this statement is of course that a clueless user installing Ubuntu would like to boot Ubuntu after install. If they don not install GRUB on MBR many new users would be unable to boot into Ubuntu. So in a way a new user do indeed prefer to have GRUB on their MBR.
I am curious; Why do you not want GRUB on your MBR?
You are right. I have the 32-bit edition of Ubuntu. If there is no MBR option on the 64-bit Ubuntu install you have discovered a bug. Please do the communtiy a favour and report the bug.
Ubuntu ask before it overwrite your boot sector. I am 100% sure of it, I did an install last monday. You should not blame Ubuntu for you being to lazy to read the message above the selection. Also most people would like to install Grub on their MBR, since they don't even know what it is. That is the reason overwrite is the default selection.
Ubuntu is a very good distro. I would not know anything about file Gnome MIME-types since I use the shell for all my file operations, so that point might be valid. But it certainly would not be a show stopper.
I do not think Apple use their hardware to lock you into their software. Macs run GNU/Linux just fine. Currently there are some issues with their Airport Extreme chips but we have no reason to beleive that this was intentional on Apples part.
Yes, that worked out really well for Tiger Direct. And back then many slashdotters sided with Apple. Will the same people side with Microsoft this time?
Good thing for me that I really don't care about this stuff. The conflict on the inside would have been very difficult to handle.

HP Fires Father of OOP

They where Kristen Nygaard and Ole-Johan Dahl working at Norwegian Computing Center. At least Nygaard have taught many young norwegians object oriented programming at the univeristy of Oslo. I think they still use Simula there. I was lucky enough to attend a course with him once. Nygaard told me the story of how they came up with OOP himself.
They both died in 2002.
Lately I have heard more than once that Alan Kay is the father of Object Oriented programming. But it seems he is the father of dynamic object oriented programming. At least that is what Wikipedia say. Why is the world already forgetting Nygaard and Dahl?
They used to be incredibly good value, these days its good value at best. Look at Dell X1, or some of Acers offerings. I like my two iBooks and my powerbook, but Fujitsu Siemens P7010 is starting to look very very friendly. (But there seems to be noise issues with the P7010).
Centrino PCs also have the advantage of wireless support in Linux. I will not buy another Mac until Apple fix this issue. The lack of Linux compatible Wifi in my Mac Mini is bothering me a lot.
Maybe an upgraded iBook would include a Intel WIFI chip?
Two confirmed deaths. Claim and confirm. Different words with different meaning. The initial report on the South east asia Tsunami was in the hundreds.
Interestingly 9/11 had claims of nearly 50,000 deaths.

I am curious. What features are these? I also use GAIM but I do not lack many features. What are you missing?

The Linux webserver would not be vunerable any way, since it does not support PHP.
Insightful? I think parent was going for funny.
Theres no new physics engine, no new real major additions (still no aircraft), and the graphics are bland
Why do you bother to comment? You obviously have not player Vice City let alone San Andreas. Those things are in both games.
>Alternatively, will you place the civ2 game (and engine) under the GPL or similar licence, so people might freely hack and expand on that?
Have you looked at freeciv? Its a cross between CIV 1, CIV 2 and is getting some features of its own.

I use Hoary 5.04. 4.1 Is quite dated, almost a year old. You should check out Hoary.
