The really funny part is that my post got modded redundant.

What is funny about that? It is redundant. It had already been said. The idea behind moderation is not to reward witty types for their wittines, it is about filter out noise for the reader. If a joke is told two times one of them really is redundant. It would be noise.

Oh, this comment is also redudant. One can probably read all about this here in the Slashdot FAQ

If you don't agree with the redundant modifier you could always set redundant to be +/-0 points in stead of -1.

Ubuntu is an example of some folks who want to do things that are IMO very very stupid.

What is very very stupid about the ideas of the people working on Ubuntu? Please enlighten me, as I do not know.

    This is Ubuntu:

he Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu Manifesto: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customise and alter their software in whatever way they see fit

    Mostly like Debian.

    And then there is:

Ubuntu will always be free of charge, and there is no extra fee for the "enterprise edition", we make our very best work available to everyone on the same Free terms.

Ubuntu includes the very best in translations and accessibility infrastructure that the Free Software community has to offer, to make Ubuntu usable by as many people as possible.

Ubuntu is released regularly and predictably; a new release is made every six months. You can use the current stable release or the current development release. Each release is supported with security updates for at least 18 months.

Ubuntu is entirely committed to the principles of free and open source software development; we encourage people to use free and open source software, improve it and pass it on.

    Where is the stupidity?

How about this? Apple prepared lots of BTO boxes with Bluetooth and hard drive upgrades before the launch. But because of the price almost no one bothered ordering Bluetooth and 80gb upgrades for their systems. Now Apple has lots of upgraded Mac Minis, but is getting short on barebone systems.

Apple now hope to get rid of their stock of mac minis with bluetooth, Airport, 512MB ram, and 80GB hard drive.

This theory does not however address the 4x to 8x superdrive issue. Maybe Apple bought the last batch of 4x from that their supplier inteded to manufacture.

". IPv6 is intended to replace the previous standard, IPv4, which only supports up to about 4 billion (4 × 109) addresses, whereas IPv6 supports up to about 3.4 × 1038 (3.4 dodecillion) addresses. This is the equivalent of 4.3 × 1020 addresses per inch (6.7 × 1017 addresses/mm) of the Earth's surface."

It should hold for a little while.

It's enough addresses for many trillions of addresses to be assigned to every human being on the planet.

The earth is about 4.5 billion years old.

If we had been assigning IPv6 addresses at a rate of 1 billion per second since the earth was formed, we would have by now used up less than one trillionth of the address space.
