Not that I like apple, but the Iphone 4's screen is currently the best on the market. There are others that come close, but sadly I'm not seeing other high-res, small-form-factor displays. Maby one or two devices above ~800x480 in the 7" form factor.

So, yes, thinking purely about the screen, there *isn't* anything better. But thinking about everything... well, I'd argue that my 2008-vintage N900 is far better, along with just about any other phone with a hardware keyboard, 800x480 screen and unlocked bootloader.

Thing is, x86 isn't gone. All desktop processors may be x86_64, but we've got lots of low powered chips that are 32 bit, and will continue to be so for the forseeable future.
We also have ARM chips taking center stage, and being able to seamlessly install and run x86 software on ARM and vice-versa(thanks to qemu) will be a major boon.

As far as companies being lazy? Um... That's not exactly new, this won't change anything. I don't see the issue.

I think this is a very good idea, though I might allow extensions up to 100 years in 10 year increments... but it'd cost a rediculous amount of money(several million dollars at least) per work for the last 10 years.
It would be expensive enough that only a few works would be kept, and since it costs so much, it would basically require the company to make money off of it. Oh, and at the same time it'd *really* balance the budget... and help keep companies like Disney from trying to change the laws.

So, yes. It may be a Hobson's Choice... But you *do* have the choice to just "leave it" and do without.

You can get USB hostmode working and hook up keyboards, usb drives and the like, write and compile software, run just about anything written on Python or comes with a Debian ARM system. Yea. It's nice.
I would *not* go for a N9/N950 - They seriously locked it down, with signed binaries, a TC chip, and locked bootloader. Apparently it's possible to run a different kernel, but without phone-module functionality and a bunch of other stuff.

It's an interesting point, but it seems that it should be possible to teach Microevolution( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microevolution ) which we've seen in the lab, without adding in a bunch about Macroevolution which we *can't* prove(Did *you* see personally see fish evolve into something else? ) . Now, don't mistake this for thinking I mean that Creationism is a better option - it isn't. But there are other options out there, like evolution through punctuated equalibriam versus gradual change. That is, if half the population dies out overnight, I'm sure you'd see some big changes in the norm, because of what now *wouldn'* be there.
The thing I see is a simplistic view on both sides, and an argument that what we see in small scale must translate linearly to large scale and vise-versa. Which, in a number of other fields, is simply not true; so why should we assume it with evolution?
Now, all I'm really saying here is that evolution on a large scale may not be linear, or smooth over time. On the other hand it might be. But pushing one of these options as fact, without adaquate proof... that's just as misguided as pushing creationism.

I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this, but... it has to be said.
