    Seriously though, as a grad student I can pull 4-5 gigs of data a day when at home and comcast throttles me for 12 hours afterwards it is ridiculous to not be able to use netflix when I pay for it. If I could pay 200 dollars a month for a 20 meg connection unthrottled I would.

    So in September I am moving to a place with Verizon FiOS and I am going to tell my apartment manager why when I collect my deposit.

    I like it, just wish I could get CUSP (Lisp plugin) working in Ubuntu. If anyone says Emacs or Vi they are insane and have never done 10k lines of code in a modern environment.

    Yeah but why should OSHA only protect the instructors. As a fellow Mech and EE I can assure you that industry standards are only as stringent as what will prevent them from getting lawsuits. Universities do not value a student as much as an employee because students are customers.

    Windows temp (/username/appdata/local/temp) which if not cleaned can hold every single unzipped file/torrent/etc since you installed the operating system. Just cleaned up a computer at a friend's house that was nearing 200 gigs in temp from mostly anime porn avi he downloaded and unzipped. I showed his gf some of the stuff thinking it was funny and was told to leave the house, he was not very happy either. Damn kids, lol.

    Read some of Steve Pinker's recent papers. Morality is not exactly hard-coded in our genes but certain propensities might be.

    I have over 10k of licensed software on my system at work because if there is nothing in open source that comes close to real engineering and math tools. Yeah, if you are a programmer you might be able to bang out something clever using eclipse but there is not a single open source CAD package I have seen in the past 5 years I would spend more than 15 minutes on.
