The above is not specially a troll :
I remember a Slashdot story featuring a list of hackers including Richard Stallman, Eric Raymond, Woz, etc.

According to rms, a Hacker is a "bidouilleur", now, the ones which you mention in this very story are more on "the dark side" (like it or not, Mitnick was convicted because of criminal activities).

So, would you mind specifying which kind of hackers you refer to ?
(Otherwise you'll let people get confused whether a hacker is good or not)

  11. uh?! on FTC Adopts New Rule For Sexually Explicit Spam · · Score: 1
enforcer999 writes "As you know, the CAN SPAM ACT preempted many state laws that were tougher on spammers. For instance, many of the laws that were enacted by states included a requirement that sexually explicit SPAM be labeled as such. The FTC, in charge of adopting rules, came up with a new rule that will require sexually explicit SPAM to be labeled as such. Hmm? I think the states were already trying to do this before the Federal government preempted them. Anyway, I wonder if it will work?"
I highlighted in bold a point I am not sure I understood, is it willingly redundant or did the submitter write it twice because it went from the states laws to the ftc requirement ?

  20. Re:Geek Fun on The Geek Shall Inherit the Earth · · Score: 2, Interesting

Why should this be a nightmare ?
The story submitter refers to self-proclaimed Geek.
So, if you give people shit and tell them "Geeks find this cool", then they might consider loving this will make them better "Geeks".
I don't really like this concept as it basically promotes some kind of insulting globalization of thought.
So, well, it's cool to have some good movie from time to time but being a Geek means "ratherly looking for cleverer solution whenever any kind of problem is faced".
It's not especially more Geeky not to use Windows than it is making it work optimally to suit one's very needs.
BTW, a friend of mine decided to leave the computing industry to become a plumber in a very demanding district, he's no more afraid of job market fluctuations and might actually make good money having an interesting manual job, so do not look the World to be a Geek's World, look forward to becoming a Geek in a Geek-demanding world...
